Oh Pioneer, how far thee have fallen. Shame, really. Once upon a time, they made great big screen televisions.

That and $100 will get you an LG. Lots of reviews with wifi issues. As a matter of fact, every single 1 star review mentions the wifi

I have the 55 inch version. You will regret watching tv on this thing. I can't use it for anything more than a display for my surveillance cameras.

I hear you. My old Pioneer Plasma is probably rolling over in its grave. The heat sink that it was had an awesome PQ.

Plasmas did have great PQ. A shame how they were phased out.

Not even the same Pioneer from back in the day. The name was sold to some economy Chinese TV manufacturer.

I remember when Pioneer was one of the biggest Anime DVD distribution companies in the USA.

Because they were highly susceptible to burn in. I owned a Panasonic and the picture was good until every banner or logo got burned into it.

There were other factors that contributed to its demise.
Thickness and weight.
Size limitations. The biggest plasmas were 65". (A 75" Plasma would easy weight 200 lbs and an 85" would be close to 300 lbs)
and there was an issue with 4K.

How many owners has Pioneer name been sold to since the OG days?

This stuff is cookie cutter junk with the name only these days.

Yeah, the early kill shot was brightness also. Mass consumers wanted that fully cranked lcd brightness they saw on display at Best Buy because it was correlated with being a good picture for some reason. Plasma couldn't keep up and then yeah the other issues you mention kind of drifted them off. Still have my Sammy pn58c8000 up in my bedroom and it's running perfectly strong. The picture still looks amazing even for today's standards.

Yea I have had my head in the sand the last 10 years or so, I don't know what is good anymore these days. Though the deal has expired, it's only $20 more now, $319. So it's a real POS? What's the best choice for something with matching specs (65", 4k, wifi, etc)?

It seems to be TCL, which, although not me, many people seem to like.

I didn't realize plasmas had an issue with 4k, but they are heavy. I have a 65" that got struck by lightning (not directly, the house electrical circuits) that had to have a board replaced, and it still looks good.

I read that LED were less expensive to manufacture and the companies were making more on those models than plasma, so they eventually stopped making them.
