Got these a few months back on a previous FP sale. I really like the noise cancelling and audio passthrough features. I wear these all day at work and they're very comfortable. The biggest downsides for me are the mediocre battery life compared to other wireless headphones and the fact that you can't charge while the headphones are powered on. You also can't power them with only an audio cable if that matters to you. Overall, I really enjoy having these headphones.
i got these shortly after they were released for $270. they're great headphones, but imo xm5s are better (i own both)
ive had the xm5's, but those bower wilkins px8's that go on sale for $349 refurb on their site from time to time sound way better. i'd say the xm5's are most comfy though, very light weight
Comparable, but I think the XM5s slightly edge them out.
The Bose are a little more comfy and make your ears less hot. The bose feel heavier since they're bottom heavy vs XM5s more distributed.
The real gamechangers for the XM5s are its multipoint capability, more polished & less buggy interface and base.
That said Bose sure knows how to make a mobile app. Sony needs to take note of that.
I'll maybe provide a contrary point and say that I find the QC Ultra to mostly edge out the Xm5 noise cancellation. The XM5 after an update is much better but still has some oddness around their adaptive ANC algorithm especially in environments with variable noise. For example if the noise you're trying to cover is intermittent leaf blowers, the XM5 tries to crank up cancellation more when there's loud noises and less when the environment is relatively quiet.
The QC Ultra feels more consistent in matching or exceeding the XM5's max level of cancellation all the time. But there's two potential drawbacks: (1) this leads to more of the hiss or pressure sensation that some people are sensitive to, and (2) in environments like gyms where there can be a lot of sudden loud noises like weights dropping or even doors slamming, this results in more ANC artifacts.
Overall I think the QC Ultra is a better choice for most use cases especially traveling and studying. The XM5 is still a good choice and has a ton more settings including a full equalizer if you are the kind of person who likes tweaking lots of knobs.

If you're traveling, the Bose ultras are hands down the better choice, though their battery life isn't as good as the Sony's. The reason is that the bose fold while the Sony do not.
I use the XM5s for my Mac / PC sound and the QC Ultras for my TV viewing during the night.

I think at around $400 (with tax) is crazy and way too much.

I almost went with the XM5. How is the noise cancellation on them compared to the Bose?
