You need quality in a miter saw. The cheap ones can have wobbly blade guards, like those cheap ones from lowes a few years back. This looks similar to those. Dewalt I'm happy with. Ryobi might be OK. 12" is really big. 10" is good for most people and fits on a normal bench better. Dewalt 10" goes through 2x6 in 1 cut without sliding. Almost through 2x8

Wrong saw in the picture. I have the sliding miter saw and it's awesome. Better than the dewalt imo. If the sliding one goes on sale, then grab it.
