Eh pish posh, forget all the smart features and buy a streaming box/stick. Smart TV's are awful and tend to slow down in a couple of years. I'd rather buy a new Fire TV for $35 than worry about getting updates for my smart TV. I have a 65" Samsung that didn't get the Apple TV app because it's one generation too old (TV was only 2 years old or less), but my 4K Fire TV got it, and I haven't used the smart features on it ever since.

Exactly this. There are an awesome selection of streaming devices on the market today and many of the best values can be had for $50 or less. I have never used baked in smart TV functions because they are obviously never going to be as consistent, smooth, or updated as a dedicated device. I recently got into a back-and-forth with another slickdealer who whined and complained about the fact that their Samsung TV didn't provide enough updates and they hated the Tizen OS. They were unwilling to accept the simple solution of buying a dedicated streaming device and tried to justify their hatred of Samsung because they felt that they had already paid a premium for their TV so they thought the streaming experience should be top -tier baked in.

Take the advice given here, folks. Just buy a streaming device like a Fire Stick or Google Chromecast (or any other platform that fits your wants/needs) and never worry again.

Just want to say I bought the 43" version of this for $299 and I was thinking of getting the 75" for $599 but maybe this one could do the trick.... $400 for 65" or pay $200 more for a non QLED samsung....

Just got the 2023 Toshiba C350 65" for $350 yesterday. Haven't picked it up yet. Also got the 5 year BB warranty. Wondering if I should cancel and get this?

People say this all the time and while correct, there are other reasons to want to use a TV OS. First and foremost are picture settings. If you like to toggle and/or make adjustments to your picture settings depending on the content, it is a better experience with the tv remote. Using a third party streamer means you have to use 2 remotes. While I don't think my Sony X90L backlit remote is the best, it's functionality is excellent and can't be replaced using a streamer remote and cetainly not the horrible Google Chromecast remote.

Looking for a "dumb" tv for my friend that uses an Xbox for apps (he can get a streaming stick later if needed). Can you recommend any models?

They don't make them, manufactures make more money selling you a smart TV, so just find the one with the best picture for the price you're looking for.

The TV OS has NOTHING to do with your picture settings for content. If you don't want to use 2 different remotes, that's one thing, but the SETTINGS is not based on the TV OS. All TV's have picture settings you can adjust, but the crappy OS they're loaded with is what you're bypassing with a streaming box/stick. No one is saying you have to throw out the TV remote because you hooked up a Fire TV to stream.

I have a TU7500 curved rocking since 2017, that thing has a bad wifi module have to use ethernet, intermittent no power possibly bad power supply, youtube app occasionally crap out and require power cycle.

7 years but too many problems

It may be irrelevant for you, but it is for others. Sony's latest implementation of Google TV and their native settings is a good example of how well it can work, at least on the better models. You literally said "there are other reasons to want to use a TV OS. First and foremost are picture settings."

Again, it's fine and dandy right now with Sony, until they decide they don't want to update your TV. Manufactures have ZERO incentive to keep your TV updated, they have 100% incentive to get you to buy a new one. The TV OS and the settings are not dependent on each other. Again, your words were "Sony's latest implementation of Google TV and their native settings" but the settings work just as well if you have a Fire TV or Apple TV connected to it, possibly even better since you can get a more powerful box than the processor in your TV. The OS (Sony's implementation of Google TV in your example) has no bearings whatsoever on the settings and/or picture quality.

Bought this model for the Black Friday deal $427.99 at Walmart. Set it up on Christmas Day (it updated when I set it up) and it lasted all of 6 hours before the screen went black with only sound and wouldn't come back on even after unplugging. Couldn't even get the menu screens to come up. Honestly wasn't that impressed with the picture on this tv. Returned. Second Samsung tv i've had issues with so I'm trying a highly rated Hisense in the same price range. Should have taken it as a red flag that someone else had just returned this same model Samsung the day I was buying mine. Seems like you can have quality issues with even the most popular brands.
