Great deal. Been using this software a gazillion years, when it used to be called Taxcut. I need to have 2 states (NY and NJ) so this is how I did it. I downloaded the 1 file from Newegg's email. I made a copy of that file and put it onto another computer. Then I install (run) the file on the first computer, and downloaded NY, no problem. I went to the second computer, double-clicked on the file that was downloaded, did that installation (that is Federal only), and once that installed I picked a state of NJ. No issue at all. When I do NY returns, I work on one computer, and when I work on NJ returns, I work on the other computer. Been doing this a couple years with 2 states, only having to pay for one.
FYI, H&R Block has spent millions of dollars lobbying congress to keep our tax filing complicated to keep themselves in business (TurboTax too).

You may qualify for free filing through the IRS's Free File program if you meet AGI requirements. This is typically different/better than the free filing offerings found on the tax prep companies' websites and must be clicked through from the IRS's site to the tax prep company.

I'd rather pay $17 less up front than waiting to redeem $20 at some point in the future at a limited selection of redeemers.

That's the cheapest I've seen for this tax season. First time I've seen Deluxe go below $18.

Not quite as good as the previous deal for Deluxe + State, which included a $20 gift card and was $35 (net $15 for the software). This current deal is $18 for Deluxe + State.

Hate that our Government plays Russian Roulette Poker with us where they get majority of the Tax forms but plays dumb and requires us to file it form scratch and if we mess up then they go all crazy with repercussions. We should still be responsible for the tax filing and confirming the validity of all the forms and information but they should be able to generate the list online....

Taxes are hard if you have complicated filing needs but also learning the tax code helps save money and make sure you take advantage of the things that you can get and thats where these softwares come in btw.

Yep, Filing Taxes (and the laws and IRS rules) are very hard - and VERY difficult to understand unless you are a CPA or finance lawyer, beyond the normal simple return.

Tax filing and and the rules that spell out how to properly file are made to be difficult by CPA's, Lawyers, and highly paid lobbyists in DC. They make something so difficult to understand, that one is either forced to overpay because they're so fearful of taking a tax deduction they don't understand or pay some CPA to fill out.

Where are those politicians of yesteryear that promised 95% of people would be able to file and fill out their taxes on a form the size of a post card. If that was ever realized, millions $$$ would be lost by the CPA's, lawyers, and lobbyists!

Someone else mentioned, in another H&R Block thread, that it was a little cheaper for a hot minute one day...but I don't recall it. So far, this seems to be the cheapest that I've seen it this tax season that didn't involve some very limited use gift card giveaway.

I'm going to go ahead and purchase the Deluxe + State at this price.

I'm only going to use three (3) of my Five Federal Free file uses, so I'll have TWO (2) uses left over when I'm done.

I'll offer each one of those (only two) Federal Free file uses (along with my software download link) here on SD for a $5 Amazon Gift card. This will help someone else to be able to file cheaply, and help me lower my cost of purchase.

I'm not advocating avoiding tax filing software in general. I'm advocating avoiding H&R Block and TurboTax specifically.

Oh I am with you in what you posted but also stating that the other software is a necessity for more (including me) as the hand holding guidance is needed. If our government would do a better job at facilitating that it would eliminate or reduce these 3rd party software.

That person was referring to the net $7.99 that I posted (likely price mistake).

Can I do this with joint filing (wife) and 1099-B form (or other forms)?

Each filing service has different offerings regarding specific forms. You'll have to click through the link to see which one works best for you.

Which tax software are you suggesting we use?

A lot of the popular online tax software providers(the ones you use in a browser) were caught sending your personal info to Facebook a couple years ago.

H&R Block and TurboTax desktop software have never been found to sell your data.

Between giving H&R Block money to lobby the government and having my personal tax info sent to Facebook, well, H&R Block is going to lobby the government whether I buy their software or not.

Sometimes you just have to choose the lesser evil.
