Great deal. Been using this software a gazillion years, when it used to be called Taxcut. I need to have 2 states (NY and NJ) so this is how I did it. I downloaded the 1 file from Newegg's email. I made a copy of that file and put it onto another computer. Then I install (run) the file on the first computer, and downloaded NY, no problem. I went to the second computer, double-clicked on the file that was downloaded, did that installation (that is Federal only), and once that installed I picked a state of NJ. No issue at all. When I do NY returns, I work on one computer, and when I work on NJ returns, I work on the other computer. Been doing this a couple years with 2 states, only having to pay for one.

FYI, H&R Block has spent millions of dollars lobbying congress to keep our tax filing complicated to keep themselves in business (TurboTax too).

You may qualify for free filing through the IRS's Free File program if you meet AGI requirements. This is typically different/better than the free filing offerings found on the tax prep companies' websites and must be clicked through from the IRS's site to the tax prep company.

I'd rather pay $17 less up front than waiting to redeem $20 at some point in the future at a limited selection of redeemers.

I've been holding out but have yet to see premium plus state drop below $35. Going to need to cave soon I guess.

Premium version is crap. They don't allow you to import in Premium version from TurboTax or pdf which they do in all the other versions. Makes no sense to me.

Might drop further towards mid to late March, but Deluxe + State is close enough to the desired $15 price level, so I went ahead purchased now to get started.

I will say the chance is 50/50. It has dropped below the current level before, it may or may not this time. Your decision.

Five free federal e-files and unlimited federal preparation and printing included.

Also, State e-file will incur additional fee except in New York.

I used Free Tax USA last year and they messed up my taxes BAD. I lived in one state, but worked in another. They had me owing $2k in my home state and getting a fair amount back from the work state. Didn't seem right. Took it to H&R Block and found out my work state was getting me back a couple hundred extra and my work state now owed me $600.

Maybe its fine if you have a very simple and straight forward tax situation, but dual state, stay far away!

Hilariously naive fake social populism. I'd much rather spend pennies on tax software relative to its benefits, letting those capitalists duke it out for creating the best interface/guided tax strategies, instead of "trusting" our Federal government and its allies to develop software that might let me keep as much of my money as possible.

FYI no income limits for some of the free options. Cash app taxes is 100% free, including state e-file) and supports most forms needed for a personal tax return in one state. FreeTaxUSA is free federal plus $15 for state e-file, but supports almost all tax situations. Of course these options are both online, whereas you can keep your data out of the cloud with downloaded software like this deal.

Which tax software are you suggesting we use?

A lot of the popular online tax software providers(the ones you use in a browser) were caught sending your personal info to Facebook a couple years ago.

H&R Block and TurboTax desktop software have never been found to sell your data.

Between giving H&R Block money to lobby the government and having my personal tax info sent to Facebook, well, H&R Block is going to lobby the government whether I buy their software or not.

Sometimes you just have to choose the lesser evil.

I use Free Tax USA. Free fed and state is free to mail in or $15 to eFile.

All of these apps just do the math for you and they should all have the same result. The vast majority of these reported discrepancies are user error.
