Do I need the rear camera? For those that have added the rear, what has been your experience? I kinda want to, but not sure if it's that beneficial?

This or the Vantrue S1 Pro Dual system for $160 after coupon on Amazon? That one also has the STARVIS 2 night vision.
Vantrue is 1080p on rear camera. Viofo rear camera is 1440p (2k).

It's beneficial for rear-end collisions.

But if I get rear ended, 99% of the time it's gonna be the other party's fault 🤔 unless I drive like a maniac and the other party can prove it with their dash cam (which my rear cam doesn't help with anything)? Or is it pretty much just so there's no room for ambiguity?

Thanks for the input. Maybe I haven't seen enough dash cam video. Just that my last 3 vehicles I always considered the rear cam and ended up going without

Agreed! Think of Dashcams as an insurance policy; the best case scenario is nothing happens but if an accident were to happen: better to spend some money here and have the evidence needed than to spend a multiple more on lawyers and court fees and evidentiary proceedings and what not.

I have Viofo dashcams in both my cars (front + back cams) for the past 5+ years now and can vouch for their quality and longevity. Camera footage came in handy twice during two separate accidents that I was not at fault. One time, the other party claimed I was at fault and insurance determined 50/50. I disagreed and sent in my footage from dashcam. Went to an arbitrator and they determined I was not at fault. The insurance money is one thing but the real relief was not having a point added to my license which would raise insurance premiums.

In summary, get a dash cam. I've installed this exact model for 2 friends and helped them hardwire it. Straight-forward install and easy to use.

What if someone hits and run? You won't have the plate all the time with the front cam.

Sharing my personal experience with A119 mini. The dashcam, while it worked was great. The nemesis was the adhesive that holds the unit. It would just not stay put and fell down every 2nd day. I tried everything including suggestions from ytube videos, redt different 3M adhesive strips etc. Also contacted Amazon and the seller. My car mostly stayed in shade in East Coast winter. Still the adhesive would not just hold and every other day I would either find the camera on the floor in the morning or it would fell down the moment a door is closed. I gave up and returned it just two days before the return window was closing.

This primary unit is expected to be heavier and I strongly feel that it would have the same issue.
In my previous car I used a rearview mirror dashcam mount which clamped onto the neck of the mirror. It was an older car without many electronics so this may not be possible with newer cars. I was happy with it compared to the stick on mounts.

I have the S1 Pro. IF I could do it over again, I would pick viofo. I think it has a better rear camera

When you hardwired it, did you use their hardwire kit? In my previous car I had hardwired it but used a fuse tap and it wasn't that bad. I had followed a step-by-step DIY someone did on a forum for that vehicle.

I'm debating if I do get this dash cam if I should spring for the hardwire kit. I think it also has some voltage cutoff feature to help stop battery drainage during parking mode. I also see it has a red cable that says should go to the battery, if you used that hardwire kit, was it difficult to get tha cable from the inside of the vehicle to the battery?

Do you think it's worth it to get the insurance provided by allstate for $16 for 2 years or $22 for 3 years?

I have a different model and here is how I did it by mounting it on the rear view mirror instead of on the windshield (requiring some DIY and avoiding warranty).

Buy something like this so it can be mount on the rear view mirror:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...=UTF8&th=1

Buy something like this https://www.amazon.com/iSaddle-Do...r=8-9&th=1 so you can attach this between the dash cam and then rear view mirror mount. What you want is a square adhesive on one end and a ball on the other.

Take off the top plastic cover off the GPS unit and align the 2nd item with the adhesive side mount on it.

Drill 4 holes through the adhesive side mount and the top cover of the GPS unit.

Get 4 very short screws that is long enough to screw into the adhesive mount and the plastic cover of the GPS unit without touching the GPS hardware.

Assemble everything back and mount it to the rear view mirror.
