No. It's a frequency modulation (FM) synthesizer. A workstation implies multiple synth engines (usually with drums) to compose an entire piece of music.

The guy below doesn't understand what a physical workstation is, and that's why he is nonsensically ranting about DAW software that nobody asked about. This will show what a workstation is:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_workstation

This is not a workstation, but it can be played standalone.

This is completely wrong. The question was: Is this a standalone workstation and while it will feed into a DAW, it's a 4-wave generator synth but doesn't have most of the arrangement functions you'd look for in a final product DAW. This is closer to a general MIDI keyboard with built-in speakers and some knobby effects, but generally it's still just general frequency modulation of supplied patches (e.g. the voices are pre-recorded and preloaded in the machine and you can slightly tweak standard waveform parameters like amplitude, envelope, and LFO settings). So no, not a DAW, but also not because it's "not multi-timbral" which is what I'm assuming the nothing-answer provided by "Selman" was supposed to imply. A workstation implies a process, not a specific functionality, but then again, that's about the level of expertise you can expect from Slickdeals.

Great deal! I paid $287 in 2020 for mine. As someone mentioned only 4 operators (instead of 6 in the original DX7) but at this price you won't miss it nod

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yamaha_DX7

Long live the DX7! Applause

The presets were widely used in 1980s pop music. The "BASS 1" preset was used on songs such as "Take On Me" by A-ha, "Danger Zone" by Kenny Loggins, and "Fresh" by Kool & the Gang.
...
Yamaha manufactured reduced versions of the DX7 sound chip, such as the YM2612, for use in technologies such as the Sega Genesis game console.
Edit: If you buy one, whatever you do, do not lose the MIDI adapter that comes with this!

Good Deal.
It is a good sounding 4-op FM synth- has variable saw-to square waveshapes and flexible feedback on the operators that (coupled with some nice built in effects) help it 'compete' with the old 6-op DX7 (though it is not the same- many folks will find what they need here). It is also a cleaner - more Hi-Fi sound than the original DX7 (if that matters to you).
8 note polyphony (only plays a maximum of 8 notes at a time) vs 16 on a DX7.

Summary- it sounds very good, and is fun to play (most Mini-keys are awful... like the popular Microkorg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/microKORG )- but this one (& the entire reface series) actually has really great mini-keys- super playable and responsive.

The Volca is crippled to 6 note polyphony- and has an inferior editing interface.
But if you just play the presets ...
and don't need the keys
or polyphony-
....then yes... it's an option. :-)

I prefer my Minilogue XD module to a Mirokorg (I had an MS2000r )
but I am old- and thus irrelevant (though I do understand any instrument in the hands of a great artist will shine like no other!) :-D peace...
