This is about what it would cost to buy all the components yourself and assemble. Additionally, Alienware use proprietary motherboard and PSUs so upgrading would be difficult. However, since this is pretty top notch components, you probably won't need to upgrade for 5-7 years.

I would say this is a decent deal if you don't want to bother building yourself or care about upgrading.

100% correct, very proprietary, so hard to upgrade or change components.

If you have a Microcenter close to you, you are way better off getting a custom system for roughly the same price.

Also, if you want this for gaming, you are way better off with a 7800X3D vs. the 7950 in this unit. If you are getting this for a creator PC with no intention of upgrades besides memory later, this is fine.

None of your scenarios make any sense. Since when do you have to buy RAM from Dell? I put RAM from Amazon in my Aurora R13. Works great.

Why can't you upgrade to a 5090 or 6090? It's a card. Take out the old, put in the new.

Your comment about MB or PS makes no sense. What are you trying to say? I didn't say you can't upgrade either...I said you won't have a need to for years and by then you're going to have to buy newer parts to go with that new MB anyways, so might as well buy a new system.

If you're a tinkerer, then sure, go buy 20 parts from 20 different manufacturers and tinker away. Most people don't want to do that. I, like many, prefer having all the parts under one warranty that can be repaired quickly.

FWIW, I was building computers probably before you were born. I know a thing or two about the pros and cons of building vs buying prebuilt. You can have an opinion about what YOU prefer, but blanket statements that nothing can be upgraded is pure misinformation.

I would spend the 2200 I spent on this all day long for these specs.. even being a dell. The thermals do suck though.

Ended up picking up a i9-14900k and rtx 4090** with faster ram for for r16 through the dell outlet at 3k. Very low stock though. Wasn't able to apply a coupon for work, school, or new customer but did have a 14 percent cb through a certain site.

Dude, do you have this model? No, you don't. Earlier models weren't great with heat, but this one they revamped the chassis with better air handling. Not hot anymore.

You must be thinking of the Aurora r16. That has a more conventional case shape and thermals are a little better than r15, but not best in class. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2...YqY&t=558s

For the r15, the thermals are improved from prior models like r13, but I wouldn't call them good. Just look at forum comments from users or a number of youtube reviewers like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n...3yk&t=435s

Nope, I mean the R15, like the one that's been sitting a foot from me for the last year. I9, 64GB and 4090.

High intense gaming for hours at a time and its calm, cool and collective. No excessive fan throttling, nothing. I had the R12 and R13 and they definitely got really hot. But they made changes to the case and the R15 is great.

No idea on the R16 but its ugly and just a plain box like every other PC case on the market.
