Googled for cheap whey and found this thread
https://www.reddit.com/r/Suppleme...cing_bulk/

Linked to this source & been buying that 15lbs 3x5 bags at a time and splitting it with friends and it's been great unflavored - there's also other flavors but that's my end game, tough to beat. Figured I should share with others, everyone I share this with is amazed at the pricing and they're also certified, check out the thread for details - seems legit.

The store has a ton of other types of proteins too and flavors.

This is the normal price. I've bought this twice and have no complaints. I still prefer the MyProtein whey isolate but their prices have gotten out of hand, so I buy this stuff now.

*This post ended up being a bit longer winded than I initially intended*

There are a lot of people commenting about this product (line) and I wanted to add to it.

Though New World Protein is not very popular, it is NOT cheap foreign protein. The owner of this company is a guy named Plato. He is/was a knowledgeable guy who did countless videos about working out, nutrition, and the "bro" lifestyle. Unfortunately, He was banned by youtube.

The channel was the same name, newworldnutrition or newworld nutritionals I forget) because the topics of his videos pushed against the terms of service.
Specifically, the use of PED's, as well as what some people could consider "conspiracy theories" in terms of big pharma. He's also a bit of a "red pill" guy back before red pill was a thing.

I could go on and on about some of the subjects he broached but the short answer is that I really did enjoy his channel because he gave a lot of value and straight answers.
I never got the sense that he was an internet marketer disguised as a "bro." Every once in a while, he would plug his protein but it wasn't every video, and it was for protein and not some online coaching program.

Despite being banned for "spreading misinformation" Plato has a fair amount of credibility with me because so much of his advice given on youtube held true. When he used to plug this stuff, he would tout it as the best quality protein on the market. Something along the lines of "it's not cheap protein, it's quality, and you pay for that quality."

He never gave me the impression in the dozens of videos I watched as being dishonest. I was broke 7 or so years ago when the man was actively posting videos so I never tried his product. At $37.33 per 5 pounds ($112/3) that is not a bad deal. The price of whey has gone up just like everything else.

Quick note: Obviously, the man has made an impression on me because he was on a mission to share his knowledge for the betterment of his viewers. Simple things. But helpful things.

(example, try hanging for long periods of time to ease shoulder joint pain, or how the biggest guy in the gym won't always give the best workout advice because they are big because of drugs or genetics.)

All this talk inspired me to do a half hearted search on Rumble to see if Plato has started posting vids again. He has not. =(

Anyways, in for one.

Will report back on if the protein passes the "basic 3" test.

Basic 3, how to know if a protein is good:
1) Does it taste good? Yes, in the pursuit of getting swole, we can choke down chalk. But we shouldn't have to. If it tastes good, we'll drink more of it. If it tastes good, we'll know the company has spent resources ACTUALLY taste testing their product.
2) Does it mix with a spoon? It is an extra (and costly) manufacturing step to add non clumping agents to protein. Many companies skip it.
3) Can you drink it without intestinal issues? Gas, diarrhea, bloating, these are all signs of low quality protein. One of the reasons some of us use protein powder and not milk, or milk powder is because we're lactose intolerant. A cheap manufacturer will either not filter the whey to remove the lactose, or keep/add it as a filler.

In for one, and will post back with my findings.

Thanks for the heads up. Gonna skip this one now

For anyone who already has the product, it will be great if you can do the "boiling water test" and let us know the results.

Wow. Big if true. I was excited about ordering from NWN because 15lbs is easier to store than 20kg straight from the dairy but looks like now I'll have to go the dairy route

Just received a shipment of the unflavored. Definitely has a sweetness to it but it mixed up like other whey isolate I have bought. I have never had unflavored whey with this much sweetness and I've bought a few different brands of it. Stevia is listed on the ingredients but I figured that was just the label they use on all their flavors. Not sure why they would put stevia in unflavored whey

Did boiling water test with NWN chocolate whey isolate, NWN chocolate micellar casein, Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey Double Rich Chocolate, and Dymatize ISO100 Cookies & Cream. The last two are simply what I happened to have on hand that I had the most confidence with them having actual whey protein. I used about 1/3rd of the scoop provided with the NWN bags as a sample, and about 1/4th of the (larger) scoops provided with the ON and Dymatize. FWIW, this is something I noticed quick upon delivery of the NWN, that the scoops with the NWN seem smaller than scoops I've gotten with other protein powders, yet the serving size is indicated as the same mass of 30-31g.

I put each sample into a 10 ounce glass, and then poured about 6 ounces of the boiling water into the glass. The ON clumped up very noticeably. The Dymatize practically turned into massive curd cottage cheese, to the point where I had to drain the water and then dispose of the "curds" separately. I had to break down one massive clump manually just to make sure. The NWN isolate and casein both near fully dissolved, each had maybe one very small single curd-sized chunk. Make your own conclusion, but I'm not buying more NWN after this. The differences were VERY noticeable, and from an ingredient perspective (at least claimed) the ISO100 and NWN isolate are very similar, so in theory they should have reacted similarly, but they very much did not.

Thanks for testing it out. This is HUGE data. What a scam.

Just did the boiling water test as well. Compared 0.5 scoops of gold standard to 0.5 scoops of NWN both using the NWN scooper. Dumped in a bit of boiling water and mixed.

My results were pretty inconclusive. The gold standard generated a few more curds than the NWN, but they were both pretty insignificant. Very few curds in each. The boiling water method seems very inexact. Wish there was something better.

I did find this comment post discussing some research someone else had done. Next time I buy protein I'll likely just buy straight from a dairy wholesaler as mentioned in the linked reddit comment. .

Just redid the boiling water test. This time used 1 whole scoop of each and added the protein to a pot of already boiling water. The NWN dissolved completely. My gold standard made so many curds I had to throw it outside. If the boiling water test is true/accurate then the NWN protein is absolute junk.

So I went to return the protein and NWN reached out to me saying

"As many people know, heating whey protein can denature it. This is why whey is "cold processed." However, during the production process, whey CAN be "heat-stabilized" to varying degrees depending on the desired application - the caveat being, the more heat stability desired, the more expensive the whey. Since applications for whey with heat stability are not common (most whey goes into protein shakes), most whey producers do produce "heat stabilized" whey nor do they test nor warrant their product for heat stability. This is why sometimes "boiling tests" yield inconclusive results. You are welcome to a refund, I just wanted to clear this internet debate up, as most consumers are not aware of the concept of "heat stability." Smilie"

I responded:

"Thanks for reaching out.

Do you have anything you can send over attesting to the protein's quality and/or confirming that it is heat stabilized?

Likewise, do you have anything showing where the whey isolate is sourced from?

If you can send over some stuff proving its authenticity I'd be happy to go up to bat for your product on these forums.

I like the protein quite a lot, I just don't have any way of confirming whether or not it's actually whey isolate."

They Responded:

"As I said, almost no whey processors test for, nor warrant for heat stabilization because very few people want it and it is much more expensive. All our whey is sourced in the USA, and for those who fear it comes from China, I would like to point out that China has no dairy industry and has to import whey from the USA. Smilie There are other countries that produce whey, but the market price for such product is too high to import."

For those asking, I recall reading a Reddit thread at some point where the person had seemingly determined that this protein was sourced in bulk from Dana Foods in Wisconsin. It's possible that is incorrect or that the sourcing has changed since then, but I figured I'd pass that along in case someone else wants to try to find out more.

My bigger worry is sloppy handling in the packaging process, which is probably not subject to any sort of inspection. That said, I'll probably continue to buy it unless I hear of people having problems from it.

Yeah but in that same thread he ended up going with another brand because the lab certificate was not being updated on the listings among other things.

Anyone have an amino acid profile on this? Specifically leucine and taurine content? I can't find it on their website.

It's been concluded that this isn't even real protein.

How bad is the unflavored one?

I'm at the point where I just cannot drink any chocolate or vanilla flavor.

But I've never had unflavored protein.
