soldered RAM at this price should be obsolete.

I returned a G14 for this and am much happier with the build quality and software stability, also the OLED display is amazing! The battery life isn't bad if you're not using the RTX 4060...

Use the regular gpu for almost everything and not the 4060. It's in the Lenovo vantage settings

Ehh.. I used to supply desktops/laptops for our entire company and I tend to swap out my laptop every year or so. I've gone through my fair share of all them and have seen each brand have it's issues. It's usually a crap shoot and 100% dependent on the models you're buying. My current Latitude 7340 is bullet proof and built better then the Lenovo Thinkpad T14 I had last year. It's also lighter and feels more solid to me. On the flipside, I got it with the intel P cpu's for more horsepower and the thing run VERY hot. My Thinkpad, while heavier and more plastic-y, ran a lot cooler (it had an AMD CPU, which DELL barely sells). Generally speaking, the XPS-line - while not business-grade, is built very well. I had the XPS15 a few years back before I decided to switch to something smaller, and have very few complaints about the XPS line. I also purchased the XPS13 for a few colleagues as an ultra-portable work laptop - also very few issues.
Have been looking at the ThinkPad T14 for a college use - appreciate the heads up! So you recommend an xps13 figured the 14 was the sweet spot.

The new DELL XPS14 (coming later this month) is going to have very similar specs to this as well (and also a 14.5" screen). It will be more expensive, but also configurable with better specs. I'm personally interested to see how that looks when they finally release it.
Dell ruined their XPS line. Not even a chance.

Not to mention these laptops are not even remotely in the same category.

So the RAM on this laptop is not upgradeable? It's stuck at 16 GB and I can't add any more?

I've been waiting for a deal on a Lenovo legion slim 7... but this is a great deal, should I settle for this? Will I miss the slim 7 if I get this?
Same here. Slim 7 deal is hard to come by but Im gonna wait for it. 'Just Josh' has a video compares slim 5 with 7 on YouTube, the 7 is better than 5 in every aspect.

I'd double check for this model. The slim 7 I have included 2 8gb ram modules, one soldered and one not (i.e., upgradeable).

There's discussion around the merits and limits of one slot being more gbs than the other, bit I don't know enough to chime in.

The audio quality on this laptop is dire. Screen is nice but no g-sync.

If you're just web browing or using Excel, the 4060 should already be auto-stopped so manually disabling it in the settings won't do anything. At least that's how my ancient Lenovo Ideapad Y50 with a discrete video card works.

Now if you're running 3-D programs, disabling the 4060 will definitely save a lot of battery power. But then your 3-D program will run like shit.

Nvidia Optimus, comes pre-installed. You can also open the app up and choose to use the 4060 with windows office if you want, not saying you should though.

Picked one Excellent Open Box to play around with it. Might keep, might not.

I have a 2021 G14 and I'm frustrated with the machine. No integrated camera in 2024 is wild. I've scoured Reddit and cannot get this machine to sleep/wake properly.

G14 has been a powerful but very annoying machine these last 3 years.

I am typing on one now, I didnt get this deal but purchased a 32 Gig Custom Build with 1060 and 500G NVME instead for $1210 when Lenovo had the weekend sale. With tax was around $1280 shipped.

Cons:
Fan noise and a tad small for productivity.
Pros:
120 Hz OLED looks great in minimal lighting.
