I picked one up this morning. Was trying to stay sub $800 for a decent laptop. I bought 32G of ram to go with this and it was under $800 before tax, so thats a win for me.

I'm debating about getting this. I too want to stay around $800 all in. I got the open-box Legion 5 Slim for 787 but this one is new. I haven't bought a laptop from Best Buy before but it sounds like their return policy is easy.

Yeah, but you're overpaying for the sad single channel ram and entry level GPU. Ultimately, this is just a lukewarm deal when you look at the whole package.

I bought an open box excelent (asus tuf a16) from best buy last week. it was riddled with issues, so i returned it and sought out a new one. I am not doing the open box thing again.

If you buy 2x16g sticks for $90 and add this to the laptop, you have a nice machine. I can't find one new that will beat this with 32G of ram in it, for the price.

If you saw these specs for $799 NEW, what would you do?

Ok, that experience with the open box nudged me. Ordered. We'll see which one works out best, both are due to arrive this week.

Another stick of 8GB DDR5 RAM is like $15 each. The GPU is entry to mid-level - it is pretty decent...it is equivalent to a desktop RX6600 and can play most games at 1080p on a mix of high settings.

Ok, I really wanted to like this laptop, and I don't want to be a screen snob but the screen on this thing is horrible for the price and what its supposed to be. Right away I could tell it looked like my $99 Asus 14 from a few years ago. It's got that grainy look, not smooth.

How can you tell what type of screen it is or whether its good/bad? What specs am I supposed to look at because this screen specs looks like it matches others but its not good.

Compared to a Asus Tuf 3050 and Legion Slim 5 4060, its the worst out of all. Hell, my Acer Aspire 5 looks better and all I use it for is surfing.

You got a Lenovo Legion 5 Slim for $787 and you're thinking of returning it? Why? Was there something wrong with it? That's a great price. The 4050 is a good GPU, especially compared to the 3050 from last year, but it's no 4060.

Yeah, the screen on this particular laptop is going to be washed out. It's 350 NITS brightness, which isn't bad. But the really problem is that the screen's color gamut is weak. It's only 45% NTSC. A really nice screen would have 100% sRGB. Now there's a whole lot of nuanced difference between NTSC and sRGB, so to dumb it down (and no, this is NOT exact, I know that) 100% sRGB is roughly related to 72% NTSC.

Lenovo does a good job of providing detailed specification sheets for each of their laptop models (and there are a TON of them). To find it, copy the model number being advertised, then Google it. You should find the spec sheet on a Lenovo webpage pretty easily. Keep in mind that there really are a lot of different models, so don't make the mistake of saying that all Lenovo Slim 5 displays are X or all Lenovo LOQ 15 displays are Y. There are often different screens available on different models.

Hope that helps.

I had problems with the Slim 5 when I first got it. I wrote up a thing on that post. It had a bunch of quirks: keyboard strobing lights out of control when first turned on, network disconnects during the very first windows setup steps and then during normal use. Fans going nuts. But most of all, I can still see coarseness or grains on the screen. It looks better than the LOQ, but I can see graininess, maybe more so at different angles.
I got the other issues fixed by updating bios, reinstalling windows and using different network drivers. But the screen still looks subpar.

Aww, that's brutal. Such a good price for that laptop, but yeah, if you've got that many problems, no discount is worth it.
