Asus had to ruin the laptop for $15 in retail cost RAM.

This would the perfect budget laptop with 16 GB RAM, 70 WHR battery, backlit kb, USB-C charging/Thunderbolt, OLED screen, Intel 13th/AMD 7040 CPU.

No upgrade ability beyond 8GB - what a shame. Good specs besides the RAM.

...and at a chunky 3.44 lbs, no less. My point: adding a free SODIMM socket and circuitry maybe adds 01. lbs (1.6 oz), another (profitable) $15 to price -- seems like ROI no brainer, but maybe I'm missing something. (Yeah, yeah, adding components have associated integration complexity, potential design tweaks, potential production line impact. Even a pessimistic +$25-30, and this unit with 16GB ram would still be a good buy.)

People should stop buying laptops that are 'perfect if only it had 16GB RAM' to let the manufacturers know no one wants these crippled laptop tiers.

I already have an Asus 8gb RAM, I5 Intel, 512gb SSD laptop. Sure it's almost 7 years old, but still works fine. Same here, I would have jumped on this if it were 16gb RAM. I do feel it seems weighty at 3.44lbs. Mine is a 15.6", with an additional original 1tb HDD, and weighs the same. A wise man once said... "still haven't found, what I'm looking for."

Had the previous gen version with the i5-1240p and the same 8GB RAM. Sold it because it gets hot easily and RAM became limiting -- there was a night and day difference between that machine and the other one with 32GB RAM. But otherwise the machine was almost perfect. It is a shame ASUS ruins such a machine.

So this is what abject failure looks like. What a shame.

These comments on Ram makes me laugh. You guys do realize there is a 16gb version of this, right? It also bumps storage to tb and has been on SD a few times recent for 699. You really don't think these laptops manufacturers know what they are doing on ROI? Do you know how much apple charge to go up to 16gb and 1tb storage?

I agree it is disappointing, but there is a reason a laptop with otherwise excellent specifications (and a high refresh rate 3k oled display) is $499, it's because the soldered 8GB RAM kills consumer appeal. Even if it had 8 GB but upgradeable RAM, you can bet it would not be this inexpensive.

It's $999 on the same website, Bestbuy.

So you're paying double for 8GB of RAM.

It was $699 from 2/5 to 2/13. It was also this price in December. It will drop again.

A deal which currently doesn't exist.

And even then, it's still extra $200 for 8GB of RAM.

$200 more, which is exactly what I posted. Like I said, do you know how much Apple charge to go up to 16gb and 1 tb storage?

And if you are one of those who expect the best deal to happen only when you want and need it because the world revolves around you, and disregards what it has been in the recent past (twice) and don't want to wait for it to drop again then you deserve to pay double.
