They also have the 256GB version on sale for $599.99

Uhh have you ever been on an airplane? WiFi is extremely limited so you need to watch your streaming service shows/movies that are downloaded to your device for offline viewing. With 64 GB and the Operating System taking up more and more of that space with updates, you soon become VERY limited with the amount of video you can store on the device itself.

I don't have problems at all. It's great for taking class notes, browsing internet, doing research and reading emails. Netflix? Sorry, I don't like to watch movies on tiny screens (iPad/iPhone). I don't bother with that. TVs are so cheap these days. Money wise, we getting to the point where iPad 256GB = iPad 64GB + 55"TV. The choice is yours.

This is a great price for a blazing fast device. Keep in mind this is the AIR. Has better screen, more RAM, and much faster than the standard iPad. Add a thin keyboard cover and this becomes the most portable device from which you can comfortably do most office work including Zoom calls, creating Word docs, editing spreadsheets, doing Photoshop. OR gaming or DJing or pretty much anything.

At home you can connect to USB hub and other devices including mouse, full keyboard, and external 4k monitor.

I also have a 13" MacBook Air and this is so much lighter and more portable, even with a keyboard.

Keep in mind that Apple supports iPads officially for 5+ years but even after it's no longer supported, you can hand this down to a kid for gaming and media consumption.

There WILL be a new iPad Air released next month.

Can't recommend this device enough at this price.

This is a good price and I would consider getting the 256gb for $599 if I need one now. BUT Apple will be releasing the 6th gen air in March and I think it is safe to say the price will start at $599 BUT does anyone know/guess what the starting storage will be? 64 would blow! IF
the next air is 599 with 128 gb I would jump on that instead of the 256 for 599 5th gen.
