Am I out of touch with heat guns these days or does this seems like a pretty lukewarm price?
I agree, but grabbed it on the 4th for $44 for the hell of it. Have used it to heat shrink wiring so far, I'm happy with it. Saves me from dragging out an extension cord for my $7 Harbor Freight heat gun lol
Trying to think of a use case for this...It's a neat idea, but all I can come up for uses are things you would normally do at a desk/workstation with a nearby outlet...things like shrink tubing, heat transfers, decal/adhesive removal from delicate items, etc....
It looks like it is tethered to the base so you just cant walk around with it and use it as a small tool - one hand is always holding the base in that case?

Agree. The only thing that comes into my mind is when you need something like that but do not have access to outlet at all or outlet is far.
But it might become cumbersome considering that the cord is only 45" long.
So really usage is pretty limited.

I like these smaller heat pens for TICONN solder seal connectors & of course heat shrink. Super handy working on trailer or boat wiring and not needing an extension cord.

The ryobi 18v heat gun would be a better general use tool for things like that? Though now I see it has a 45" cable, that would be neat to clip/bag the base on the belt and walk around with if you had a bunch of them to do

Would definitely get the bigger battery version for whatever tool ecosystem your in. Even with my 9 amp battery my Dewalt heat gun eats the battery like nothing.
Any brand/voltage cordless heat gun is gonna suck when you compare it to even a $10 harbor freight core def one. I have the 18v Ryobi soldering station and love it for car wiring etc.
Edit: didn't even think this was 18v, it looks like a pen that you charge like their pen rotary tool etc

I would have jumped on this for "portability" and I have a bunch of Ryobi batteries.
