Idk if you got a bad one or not, or maybe the glue sticks you were using, but I have both the ryobi 18v small and regular hot glue guns and they're both pretty great.

I do also have the ryobi 18v full size heat gun, and that one is not good. Maybe for limited usage it's fine, but there's no comparison to a corded heat gun. While I would expect corded to almost always outperform a battery operated tool, the difference was just too drastic. It took me so 3-4 minutes to heat shrink something that takes me 15 seconds with a corded heat gun.

I have one of these for my electronics workbench, kinda nice for heatshrink, but it's pretty limited usage.

I have one of these for my electronics workbench, kinda nice for heatshrink, but it's pretty limited usage.

Yup. I basically use mine for cleaning up strings, bending certain model 3d prints, heat shrinking and also great for sticker removal.

There's not much that'll loosen Loctite. My gut says acetone but that might damage the bracelet.

Wholeheartedly disagree. I have both glue guns and they're both excellent but when I reach for one, I go for the compact one first. The key is to place it back on the base between gluing. If you need to glue a long run before it can be placed back on the base, then get the bigger glue gun that connects directly to the battery.

I also have both sizes, and both have been great. I use the larger one weekly and it is still going strong now after 3 or 4 years.

They say the permanent loctite, red and green, require 500 degrees F to loosen. This claims to go to 875F.. so maybe?

The non-permanent blue and purple I've never needed heat to remove...

Totally agree with the heat gun, so I'm on the fence with this but will give it a shot.

I had a heat gun in the mid 90s. Haven't used one in 25+ years, but needed one. I figured technology changed things a lot, most Ryobi products are pretty good, why not?

I ended up buying 2 normal heat guns.

I use a mini butane torch for that. That's how Indo it for Kawasaki motorcycle bar ends that use red permanent thread locker and it would take a lot of juice to get all that metal (thermal mass) up to 500°F.

Contrary to your experience, I agree with a few others in here = I have both the full-size and mini cordless glue guns. If you're wanting to glue things up without that stinkin cord always getting in the way - they both work pretty well once they warm up
