I've used this Krups everyday for almost 5 years and have never cleaned it nor had a clog. Loud as hell for sure but very reliable.
Def a good deal for a name brand burr grinder, but the Cuisinart DBM-8P1 was a Consumer Report Best Buy as I recall. I have the Cuisinart, so I can vouch for it (very reliable, does not clog, large capacity hopper and grind container - but loud af). That said, it's currently selling for over $50, so this Krups at less than $32 is pretty hard to beat, price wise.
I have one and have had it for years.
Good deal to buy another for a backup!

I would like to buy a reasonably priced coffee grinder, but had such a poor experience with an Ariete (sp) grinder, hesitant to jump in again. The grinder mentioned left more of a coffee grounds mess, clean up, more bother than it was worth. Judging from some comments here, not sure this one will fit the bill. I don't care about espresso, so maybe ok?
I own this one,
https://www.amazon.com/Mueller-Ul...den&sr=1-5
although mine is branded under another name that is no longer available. I like it a lot. Doesn't make a huge mess unless you use oily beans and comes completely apart for easy cleaning. Very nice, consistent grind and lots of settings and has a very handy little airtight container for a couple days worth of grinds..

Go for a baratza encore for a good burr grinder. It's easily repairable and you can often get refurbished from them directly. This krups grinder will be better than a blade grinder or preground but that's not saying a lot.

Probably wouldn't use this for espresso.

Bodum Electric Burr Coffee Grinder

Curious about this as well; it looks to fit the bill price wise (link below).

Having said that, I have had this grinder for a few years (since Aug 2020) and I started having issues with it about 6-9 months ago. It grinds coffee much, much slower than it used to. I have contacted and am working with their support at the moment; the suggested replacement part is something like $25 + shipping so I may just jump on a new one from costco.

The price at costco for it looks great compared to what I bought for for what it is worth too. Hope this information helps someone.

I have this one, it's okay. Paid 45 in July 2021. There are a few quirks that I don't prefer but it grinds the coffee fine if the coffee doesn't run out.

I'm holding out for one without a static issue. I currently have a Cuisinart conical burr grinder with terrible static. It makes clean up a pita. From the reviews, this Krups grinder has the same issue.

Of all the burr grinders I have used over the years, a Krups (different model, but more expensive than this) was the only one to break. I don't have really good ones, just the typical Capresso and Oxo, but these are holding up well, if with some long teeth for the older ones.

America's Test Kitchen tested burr vs blade grinders and couldn't really taste a difference . They asked two coffee houses for their opinions and they also couldn't tell much difference.

If you're buying a burr grinder for the convenience of a consistent grind everytime and not needing to time or check your grind like with a blade grinder then you should buy a burr grinder.

If you're buying it because you think it will noticeably improve the taste of your coffee, the expert opinions don't think it does.

I would recommend this. I have this model and have only been using it for 2 months, but it is a solid machine. I am not doing a superfine grind and having no issues with clogging.

I wouldn't say this is super conclusive just because they don't go into detail on methodology or results. There are three things of note after I watched that clip, what kind of coffee beans were used, what happens for other brew methods, and did the tasters consistently taste a difference between the two or not. The last point, I don't think they clarified but it would be interesting to know if over those 4 (or 5) test passes, did testers consistently choose the same grinder type as their preference or were they just unsure. There are definitely other reports of blind taste tests of people being able to taste the difference however.

Either way, it's still interesting to see that that's the conclusion that they came up with. Brings into question the conventions for coffee and maybe draws parallel with wine. I feel confident in saying that a vast majority of people aren't great at tasting wines, that's why there are such a small amount of somms in the world. Getting burr grinders may make sense for the "coffee somms" but not for the vast majority of people, if you're okay with fussing with a blade grinder a tad to save money.

Which KitchenAid grinder model are you referring too? I purchased this grinder to try out, but would pay extra for a quiet reliable grinder. I'm currently using those a spice grinder and would like something with a higher capacity.

I think they went into sufficient detail. Obviously they're going to use good quality beans and water. They used a highly rated brewer. The only difference was the grinding method. They stated the testers could taste subtle differences but nothing that made them choose one over the other. The two coffee houses also had the same results.

The point wasn't that they could or couldn't taste any differences. It's that they didn't immediately choose the coffee made with the burr grind and say, "this one tastes better". They didn't have a preference either way which says enough.

Thanks. We have the Krups Blade Grinder that has been working like a champ for about 10 years now. We will give that one an early retirement and use it specifically for bread crumbs, herbs, etc.

that's bc coffee drinker's drink schlop and any beans can be used by manufacturers for some smoky french roast grade coffee. ask the cold brew and espresso drinkers then let's have this conversation again. the fresher and lighter roast coffees have way more nuanced flavors in aeropress / cold brew and the burr grinders provide the consistency of grind that is not optional. the bitter oils are released in higher and higher concentrations the finer the grind and probably even add some friction heat exacerbating things. a blade will have some coffee about right and some part of the mix overblended and more oily and bitter EEK!
