I've used this Krups everyday for almost 5 years and have never cleaned it nor had a clog. Loud as hell for sure but very reliable.
Def a good deal for a name brand burr grinder, but the Cuisinart DBM-8P1 was a Consumer Report Best Buy as I recall. I have the Cuisinart, so I can vouch for it (very reliable, does not clog, large capacity hopper and grind container - but loud af). That said, it's currently selling for over $50, so this Krups at less than $32 is pretty hard to beat, price wise.
I have one and have had it for years.
Good deal to buy another for a backup!

Hey, I know my question may sound stupid, but I don't know much about coffee.
My question is, If i buy beans and crush them using this grinder do i need anything else to now make a cup of coffee? Or I can just put in a cup like instant coffee and pour hot water and make my coffee.
But if thats the case then what the more expensive machines for? and filters for.
But if you need to filter it then why?

Instant coffee is actually brewed coffee that has been dehydrated.

This is for grinding the original roasted coffee beans. You then need to run hot water through the beans to "brew" coffee. There's a few ways to make sure the grounds don't get in your finished product (brewed coffee). The most accessible might be a French press (no paper filter needed) or a pour over. Youtube either to see how they work.

I think they went into sufficient detail. Obviously they're going to use good quality beans and water. They used a highly rated brewer. The only difference was the grinding method. They stated the testers could taste subtle differences but nothing that made them choose one over the other. The two coffee houses also had the same results.

The point wasn't that they could or couldn't taste any differences. It's that they didn't immediately choose the coffee made with the burr grind and say, "this one tastes better". They didn't have a preference either way which says enough.
Kind of feels like you're finding facts to support your opinion rather than forming your opinion from facts. I'm not going to disagree with your statement except you're disregarding the fixed variables. The one that is missing is the roast level but can probably be assumed as dark, similar to it being ground coarse. These are far more (or is commonly said by coffee snobs) lenient with the precision of your gear. Their test kitchen and experts may have a different opinion of blade vs burr for lighter roasts and finer grinds. After thinking about it, I feel like the other reports of blind taste tests that people were able to taste the difference is probably due to the different brew method but I can't recall.

But at the end, is your original comment correct for a large majority of people that will be visiting this thread? Probably since ATK's experiment is the use case that is most popular in homes and offices, at least in the US. I wouldn't feel confident in touting such a generalized conclusion about grinders though due to one experiment demonstrating one use case.

Not sure which one to keep. Is a flat burr any worse/better than conical burr?

I have owned this burr grinder for 3 years and use it daily. It has never once clogged, although I don't grind the really oily espresso beans. If I really had to nitpick anything about it, it's the static in the container after you grind sometimes caused the grinds to stick to the edges. Just tap the container on the counter after grinding to avoid this.

FYI, if you add a sprinkle of water to the coffee beans right before you grind them, it will basically eliminate that static. I have a bodum with a glass container, and now the grounds don't get stuck any more.

I'm holding out for one without a static issue. I currently have a Cuisinart conical burr grinder with terrible static. It makes clean up a pita. From the reviews, this Krups grinder has the same issue.
I definitely have not tried that many, but I'd bet almost all coffee grinders have some static. That's just physics. Mine gets some on the sides of the cup the grinds fall into but I just tap the sides a couple times while it's grinding and that takes care of it. Mine is the exact same as this one https://www.amazon.com/Mueller-Ul...den&sr=1-5

I recommend it.

After tossing an OXO in the bin due to its constant clogging attributable to a sideways chute I would say forget this. It will constantly clog and require cleaning. That will be almost impossible to do. I purchased a KitchenAid grinder. Although far more expensive, it is fast, extremely quiet, and has a straight hole from the bean hopper to the receptacle, which will not clog and can be easily cleaned from above.

I've been using the OXO for over 5 years, usually twice a day at 2 different grind settings daily, and it NEVER has given me any issues at all, and the coffee never gets stuck in the chute.

So I decided to cancel the krups for the kitchenaid. Thanks for the link, I do not think i would of found this from random searches.
Both seem like good products, but I needed a "quieter" grinder because of the small living space. Both the hopper and canister has a gasket, so i am assuming I can store whole beans and grinds for a a short period. This would help with my limited storage space.
Lets see if this is worth 3x times the price of the Krups. If anyone is interested and has target red offers. Target has the same unit for the same price as amazon.

The only problem I have is it starts at 2 cups, not one. I like to brew a single cup in my ninja. I don't like measuring my beans every time. I load up 3 weeks of beans in the hopper then just press grind every morning

Got mine same day and was excited to try it out for espresso...It just doesn't work well for me. I tried the finest setting and it basically clogged up my porta filter as it was just dripping out. Messed with the settings by doing clicks toward coarser, but then I just got spraying everywhere...Went back to my Timemore C3 and everything was good again...Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I'll be returning mine.

I've had the krup burr model that is a slightly higher model ( GVX112) than this one for almost 14 years. ( same sideways design ). It's never clogged but it just died today so I'm looking for another krup.

I think a "cup" is often referred to as 6 ounces, and the single mug setting on the ninja is more than that isn't it?
