We were using an instant pot to make our white rice and while it was pretty quick (20-25 minutes or so total time start to finish), and we thought it usually came out pretty good, it was also inconsistent at times and sometimes the rice would be a little mushy and such. We also started struggling with the instant pot recently where it would CONSTANTLY go into a "Burn" fail-safe and we couldnt figure out why and batches of rice kept getting ruined.
So we decided to try out that $150 Zojirushi off Amazon and have made rice a few times in it since getting it recently and it's unbelievable how amazing it is compared to the instant pot and very consistent each time we've made it so far. There's definitely a noticeable difference but I wouldnt be dropping $100+ on a rice cooker unless you actually cook rice fairly frequently (weekly) because its probably not really worth it otherwise. I couldnt justify dropping $260 on this zojirushi simply because i feel like i would have to make rice every day to make that worth it and we simply dont eat THAT much rice.

Growing up we had the giant one with flowers all over it and the external water catcher on the back that you had to empty every time. That rice cooker didn't break down even after daily use year after year. When it finally was replaced, it was simply because my parents wanted a new inner pot for it—not because it stopped working.
too much risk with bacterial growth.
it needs to keep it heated at a high temp to prevent growth, but then the rice gets dry and overcooked.

It really depends on how picky you are about rice, how often do you cook/eat rice, and how much you are willing to spend. IH technology has been around for quite some and IMHO NW-QAC is decent a decent IH rice cooker. We cook rice almost daily and willing pay for premium taste. To me a good rice cooker means you can use non-Japanese rice and still get quality rice. I spent about 60k yen on a NW-PU, hauled it all the way back from Japan, and paired it with a 120-100 voltage converter. It has 4 IH coils, a step below the 6 IH coiled NW-FA , (which you can get it here online for ~$850). To many that is way too much for a rice cooker, but to me it's 200% worth it, because I eat rice every day and I think it's a fantastic investment and improves the quality of almost every meal I cook..

Dummy proof is the right phrase.
