Gamestop is currently running a promotion on trades for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch Games in store where you get an additional 50% more. In store only
As always, these "deals" come with the usual disclaimer that they cut the prior trade value by 40-60% when these promos start.
Yeah. Previous years they'd wait until Monday to cut a lot of stuff so it'd be a great trade in on Sundays but seems they've been changing it on Saturday or before now.
I hate GameStop as much as the next person but we kind of need them around if we want physical games to stay around.
Bingo. I'm not a big fan of GameStop because of their practices but I am a big fan of physical media, particularly games, thus I've come around to giving them my business on occasion.
Well, two games I can verify that truly went up 50% are RDR2 and Shadow of War for PS4. I know because I traded them for $14.xx and $1.10 respectively. Today they are worth $22 and $1.65.
However the ones I did not trade seem to be the same price today as the quote I got last week, I just can't remember the values and won't be back in front of my PC where the values are on a notepad until Sunday.
It's strange though, because they are both PS4 titles and the ad clearly says PS5 and Switch titles.
Edit: I was incorrect about Shadow of War. The amount remained unchanged at $1.65. However, I did trade in RDR2 for a confirmed $13.20 last week and it is now $22.00. Ouch.
If you think GameStop is scummy, you apparently have never been to Vintage Stock.
I was sold a wish dot com imposter Dualshock 4 for $59.99 when it clearly was a malicious bait and switch. It's one thing if they didn't know it was fake and VS got duped, but no. I found out that on the company order sheet it is listed as a separate item "PS4 Dualshock Import" but it is sold mixed in with the legit ones. They had someone copy the boxes, trademarks, everything. Luckily I knew how to spot the fake and bought a legit DS4 somewhere else to compare. Sure enough, there were several subtle differences (different screws, font differences, grammar errors like sentences that end with a period and no.space, etc.). I even got Sony involved for copyright infringement. Unfortunately I couldn't find a lawyer or Sony exec who cared enough to pursue it. You'd think Sony would want to protect their assets, but nope.
I'm away from my PC until Sunday, but I'll edit this post and attach pics of the real vs fake when I get back if anyone wants to see the proof for themselves.
Gamestop has done many shady things, but I don't think copyright infringement is one of them.

Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection NSW $12.80
Super Mario RPG $35.20
Super Mario Kart 8 $35.20
Dead Cells Return to Castlevania $25.60
Also used the $50 plus on my Xbox Series S and got $187.50
These values factor in the extra 10% from Pro Membership BTW but honestly not bad.

Yeah this is pretty reasonable given how cheap games can be found on FB market, if you live in a big city at least.
