They cut loose the 8 and X models this cycle. The remaining X lineup and the 11s might be dumped this fall. So maybe a year and a half for the 12s, but could be 2.5 years. Just my best guess.

I got caught by surprise when they pulled the plug on my 6s - a few months after I paid Apple to put in a new battery. It still has 100% battery health.

I'd still be using that 6s if not for the fact that you have to have an iPhone with the latest iOS to be able to update your Apple Watch. And my Apple watch is the best thing since sliced bread.

Current iOS 17 is available on XR (released in 2018). So 12 pro should get updates for at least 3 more years.

80% battery health is not great, I consider 90+ to be good and 95+ to be awesome

Don't get a iphone 14, esim sucks.
i use to think this but haven't had any issues actually. Esim transfers have been pretty easy. Obvioulsy not as easy as using a sim ejector and moving it. What you do get is less point of failure when it comes to water ingress. I have litterally taken my 13 Pro, 14, and 15 pro snorkeling.

For better or worse, we're now stuck with esim- 14, 15 and probably future phones as well.

Samsung / pixel will mock apple for an year or two and then quietly follow the suit. - as they did with headphone jack, lac of charger in the box etc.

This isn't Android. Apple actually supports past 3 years.
The Google Pixel 8 & 8 Pro has guaranteed updates for at least 7 years.

Curious here, why is the apple watch so Greta in your opinion? I've been debating getting one

Apple is a hardware manufacturer not main software company. Their iOS always supports new HW. What the heck you want a new iOS relating to new iPhone hardware for old iPhones. You just want more new hardware bugs. A security update is what an old phone needs. Apple still releases patches even for iPhone 6s, almost 10 years.

Just upgraded to the 15 pro from the 12 Pro last fall and to be honest, don't really notice any speed bump. Just a better camera with stronger zoom and low light is the biggest change.
I went to the Apple Store with my iPhone 12 Mini and compared it to the iPhone 15 Pro recently. The interface was a little bit faster. The camera zoom was better. Didn't feel much different otherwise. Even the photo quality wasn't obviously better unless pixel peeping. Just couldn't figure out why I should upgrade. I spent $90 instead to have them put a new battery in my iPhone 12 Mini. Let's see what the iPhone 16 brings.
