Canon has multiple refurbished cameras and lenses on a deeper discount than normal. The R6 Mark II refurb is going for $1799.99 and lenses like the RF 35mm f/1.8 for $299 (normally $399 refurb or $499 new) Black Friday pricing for the refurb RF 35mm f/1.8 was $250 so this isn't far off.

Promotion is ending on February 29, 2024. Refurb stock does not stay long according to the canon rep I called today.

Call the Canon Upgrade program number (1-866-443-8002) to receive an extra discount if you qualify for it using an older canon camera and/or lens. I received an extra 10% off the refurb price ordering the 35mm after calling and using my kit lens serial number for the program.

These prices suck for refurbished. These were brand new prices just a month ago.
With all fairness, all Canon refurbished gear I've bought over the many years are indistinguishable from new. Canon's 10% loyalty discount sweetens the deal here.

Used to shoot Canon until I realized I was never going to be able to afford their really good glass. Got tired of plastic bodies and plastic lenses and moved on to fujifilm x-t30 after my t2i. Seems like Canon has been doing well with their newer full frame Mirrorless tech though. Shot on somebody's R8 the other day. Seemed pretty good, but paying over a grand for a plastic camera doesn't sound appealing enough... I'm sure some might argue that the polycarbonate actually holds up well, is shock resistant, etc.

EOS RP is $599. Good deal? I know it went for $549 on previous FP deal.

edit: Nice, got it for additional 10% discount after Canon upgrade program.

RP for $600 is about a 1.5yr old deal - good price, not the best, but not likely to get much cheaper. Watching and picking up an R or R8 refurb would be better to spend a little more.

FWIW, Back when Canon store had the R6m2 for $2k, the 20% loyalty discount would put it at $1600, cheaper than a $1800 refurb with 10% discount ($1620).

Do you need to send your old camera in or you just need it's serial number? E.g. if I want to keep my old 6D, do I just give them the number, buy an R6 II, and keep my 6D or do I need to send the 6D in?
Nope! I didn't need to. I'm not sure if because it's too old but he said the camera had reach its life cycle, a long time ago.

I have an R7, R6, and Sony A9, and had an R5 and R50, A7RIii. Can't say I've tried Fuji, the AF on the canons are impressive for a hobbyist like me. Are the Fujis faster than an R8 when shooting BIF?

r100 looks like the cheapest way to get into the R system. How would the sensor compare with an Canon M6.

I would opt for the R50 honestly, it's just overall a much better camera and much better value than the r100. The R100 is using a processor and sensor from 2018, the same one found in the M50 II. The R50 uses the same processor as the R3 - quite a leap in speed and autofocus imo over the R100 and it has the same sensor as the R10. Plus you get a flippy touchscreen with the R50, the R100 just has a regular LCD with no touchscreen.

I would rather spend the extra ~$160 for the refurb R50 kit over the R100 kit right now. It's a much more versatile and usable camera overall.

Nope! I didn't need to but maybe that's because the camera serial I gave was way past his life cycle, the 30D.

I hear people buy Canon compact cameras in yard sales / flea markets for $10 just to use the serial number for the Canon upgrade program. I might buy a couple before Black Friday as well.

My brother shoots a lot of birds with the x-t3, but I think the h2s is maybe the one if you wanted the latest, fast autofocus. I honestly don't know how it compares to Canon at the moment though. I've been a little out of the loop though since I haven't had the budget or need to be getting the latest cameras. I'm pretty happy with my xt30. With a pancake lens, it's awesome for travel. I imagine it might feel a bit unbalanced with a long zoom on it for birding. Out of curiosity, which of those that you've had is best for BIF?
