I own the standard, non-AX version and have used it extensively in my travels domestically and globally. There's a walkthrough published by gli on this exact topic here: https://docs.gl-inet.com/router/e...ve_portal/
This is also great for cruises where they base your cost on per device. Hook this up first and tie to your account and then connect all your devices to the gl to save. Granted this only works when in your room, but definitely helps for those cruise line that charge per device.
With amazon business account, there is an additional $31 promotional certificate that can be clipped which brings the original $82.90 down by extra $31 and total price comes to about $51.90

Did you completely wipe out the stock OS and moved to OpenWRT? What instructions did you fellow?
Yes, a wipe in a sense. Not really any instructions to follow. I found the openWRT "official" page for this device, it had links to the latest official build for this device in particular, i downloaded it (the firmware image) and applied it as an "update" in the stock gui. And done.

Believe it was this page. https://openwrt.org/toh/gl.inet/gl-mt3000

Thank you for that, any specific reason you went with the stock build of OpenWrt vs the default OS build provided? This is my first rodeo with this router, and I am about to make a trip and I don't want to sit and troubleshoot stuff in vacation.

I needed multiple SSIDs plus client mode at the same time and it didn't look like the stock could do that (through the GUI anyway) and i am a believer in wiping out any software that came from china when possible. At least before i put in my VPN decryption keys and stuff.

You can (and I have) updated tailscale on the AX: https://forum.gl-inet.com/t/how-t...0/27725/14 [gl-inet.com]
Also after you install tailscale from the package, do the following. Download the latest staticl'y compiled tailscale version from here https://pkgs.tailscale.com/stable/#static

Install upx in your windows/mac and use that to compress the downloaded tailscale/tailscaled binary and scp it into router and dump it in to /usr/sbin. Make sure to install the sftp package to allow you to sftp into the router. The newest version of Tailscale works like a charm with exit end points

From https://store-us.gl-inet.com/ Have to put the MT3000 in the cart.

"The freebie has run out."

If there is no freebie...I'm better off ordering from amazon. Is it worth ordering the case separate?
