I bought mine almost 6 years ago now and it still runs perfectly, even through incredibly hard use. The self-propel feature on mine is adjustable via an incremental toggle switch from a slight crawl to a nice brisk pace. I highly recommend it to everyone!

There's a dial you can spin to lower and increase speed. She'll do great

Ok...well you have your datapoint to add, and I have mine. I dont live in Texas, and I also dont mow just "1/8 of an inch". Rainfall in downstate NY is quite substantial during the growing season, and to avoid cutting off more than 1/3 of the grass' length, weekly, or even 2x-weekly cutting is required.

Charging 4x is not an issue with two batteries.

Calling these machines "trash" is still extremely hyperbolic and helps no one. No solution is perfect; my parents are elderly but still enjoy the exercise of mowing the lawn; not having to clear out seasonal gas, clean out carbs, and push around heavy machines is a boon to them, so electric is ideal for them.

One week growth of Kentucky Blue Grass != anything close to the stress St Augustine puts on a mower. When I lived in the North, my Greenworks was able to handle 1/4 acre just fine on two batteries (which were small). Down here it took 8-10 charges to handle a marginally larger yard (1/3 of an acre), which is why I got the Ego. Which is why I was pissed that it still took multiple charges on a 10 amp battery.
I see you completely dodged the part where my lawn is thick enough that my honda bogs down and actually shuts off. Has your St. Augustine done that?

Most kentucky blue grass isn't as healthy as mine and it's thin. You've probably never mowed any this thick.

Happy with mine so far. Look for rebates from your state or county for buying electric. I got one here in CA.

How does this compare to the Greenworks 80v one for sale for $599 at Costco (saw it in store)?

Can someone describe how the self propelled works on this mower? Some years ago, I got rid of my Honda because I hated the rear wheel drive, self propelled. I went back to a Toro front wheel drive self propelled, because it was much easier to just lift the front wheels and pull backwards, when cutting under shrubs and bushes. I have a lot of shrubs that I cut under, and the Honda wore me out. Not only was it tough to pull backwards, even if you disengaged the drive, the transmission started locking up after a couple years of use. My Toro is starting to have some problems, and I need to replace the front wheels. They've gotten slick and provide no traction. Thought about just getting the EGO since I already have the string trimmer, edger and battery.

I bought my honda 7 years ago for $680. Since then I probably spend around $20 a year on gas. I've changed the oil, air filter, and spark plug twice.

By now if I'd had a battery mower I would probably have needed to buy a new battery at least once, for more than all the maintenance I've done on my mower.

It's worth pointing out that back when I bought my Honda Ego wasn't well known yet and they hadn't been in the mower game long. At that time their 21" mower was $600 with one battery and I definitely would need two for my yard. So it actually would have been more expensive than my Honda.

At this point it doesn't make sense to replace a perfectly functional mower that still runs like it's brand new.

I'm not against people getting Ego mowers, and I'll probably get one someday.

All of my other lawn equipment is Ego.
I have one of those Troybuilt mowers with the Honda engine from like 7 years ago. It only cost around $275. I don't understand what the big deal is about maintenance on a lawn mower, anymore than I understand men who don't know how to change the oil in a car.

Changing the oil in a lawn mower which is something people might do once every 3 years -is nothing. It takes like 1/5 quart of oil -if that. Cleaning out an air filter takes 5 minutes. Cleaning off a spark plug takes 5 minutes. The hardest maintenance is sharpening a blade (which should be done Every Year) and people with electric mowers are not immune to that.

I understand the argument about old gas but the maintenance argument constantly tossed around is bunk.

If you can easily cut your grass after 2 weeks with one of these great, I've got better things to do than be out there constantly cutting grass.

Is this a better option over the Milwaukee mower? I have Milwaukee tools but this offer is enticing.

She has a yard full of mower land mines, lol. Quite a few trees and many shrubs. I've mowed it myself a few times and it's a constant push forward, back up, swivel, back up, etc.
Very easy to hold the handle and mindlessly pull back on the engaged drive.
There are 2 controls for the self propelled: one adjusts the speed and one activates. I will tell you if you activate it you aren't gonna stop it. It's rear wheel drive, and based on the pull feels like direct drive, not geared to the blade motor like gas mowers are. So when it's on, it's on. That'd be my only concern is it ruthlessly dragging her to the ground if she panics and doesn't let go of the handle.

Other considerations:
- No more gas! Plop in a battery and go.
- If you invest in the other tools, one battery to rule them all.
- Batteries last a while. I have a small yard, but easily able to edge, trim the many bushes, mow and blow everything one my one 7.5a battery. I also have a 5a, both being more than enough to do my yard.
- The mower comes with a quick charger, so as long as you are good about swapping the battery, even for large jobs you should be fine.
- It's pretty light. Makes it pretty easy to maneuver.
- It folds up nice and tight. Keep mine vertical up against the wall so it takes up minimal space.

We bought an EGO based on different reviews on line for MIL. She was replacing a older John Deere push mower. That thing was made from steel. She is 80 years old and refuses to let anyone until recently help her with her lawn. She absolutely loves using it. She actually got a Electric Snowblower that uses the same battery. She keeps them charged and loves the fact there is no maintenance or any major upkeep.

I highly recommend the EGO as it super quiet and easy to use. She got the smaller version. I just took the plunge and bought one for myself.

Bought Ego lawn mower and blower last year but wasn't happy with cut quality, so got a Toro 21568 instead which is much better than the Ego. Prefer self propelled drive on Toro too. Toro 7.5Ah battery holding up better than 7.5Ah Ego battery for blower, think because Ego fast charges in 30 min while Toro charges in 3 hours. Store/charge both batteries indoors, nice that Toro charger is passively cooled without loud fan like on Ego. When new, Ego battery lasted longer though. With Toro couldn't mow both front and backyard (around 6000 sq ft), had to do on separate days, although picked up a second Toro battery so not an issue now.

Im needing a new mower due to mine is done. I have the Ego leaf blower and absolutely love it but not sure if batteries will last for my yard. I have a slight hill in back yard but my lot size is 8,869 sqft. But the house with 3 car garage and a pool with large deck also covers that so I might be fine. Anyone have any input?

I paid $688. That's taxes and everything included. And I sold my well used 8 year old Husqvarna gas mower that didn't have the same torque for about $150 to help pay for it. I spent a lot of time with that mower changing oil, replacing spark plugs and air filters, and dealing with the gas every few weeks. I'm not a slacker, and I'm very handy. I'm not complaining about gas mowers, I'm just blown away at how much better this mower is in almost every single way. I agree with a lot of people that you shouldn't buy an electric mower that's cheaper and weaker. It makes no sense to me unless you have a very small easy property. Within a few years I don't see how gas mowers like these will still be able to compete. Not everything being battery powered makes sense but I do think this is one of them. You'll see when you why I probably seemed so hyped talking about my mower when you end up getting yours. Just stay away from the speed IQ because that gimmick is terrible.

No probably not. I can do about 8000 sf on one battery
