Now they've done it...
New wording for Metro unlock policy:

https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/t...ock-policy

"Unlock eligibility requirements
We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:

The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
Three hundred sixty-five (365) days must have passed since the device's activation date."

Should obviously only apply to purchases made after they changed the rules.
But might have to fight for that...
scroll down to Port your Google Voice number out to another carrier

https://support.google.com/voice/...5667?hl=en

Account is GV Number no dashes and need Setup Voicemail PIN is Port PIN if not setup that yet

to setup the voicemail pin have go to settings and enable Call to listen Check and manage your voicemails by calling your Google Voice number.

https://voice.google.com/u/0/settings#voicemail
Your account number is your google voice phone number. The pin is the one you set up in Google voice to check voice messages.

I went to an Hispanic run Metro because my sim card didn't work and Metro told me I had to go into store to fix this. and my god they kept pushing fee after fee and fee. First $100 fee to look at my phone, a $59 activation fee. Some $39 fee. They told me they couldn't help unless I bought a phone case. They kept mentioning fees. They kept making up things and I was like NO, they sent me a bad SIM and I was told I had to go into store to fix it for no charge. They laughed and said we charge for everything. This was the worst customer service I've ever gotten. It is very wrong T mobile allows scammers to run Metro shops.
This deal means to avoid the store scammers....
the prepaid phone store ( Metro, boost ,and and others) is designed for scammers... prepaid and go...no credit check...one time deal..

This is why I am not getting $30 for second line since my first line is at $40 with the Motorola Stylus deal two weeks back
Then 40+40 is better than 65+30

It's not about the OP deal but like to ask here since it's a MetroByt activation / unlock issue.

I got a Samsung A14 5G as a gift last year with a new SIM from MetroPCS.

I didn't need a phone at the time, but later found worth a try. When I inserted the Sim in, and try to dial, I'm told "Sim card not activated". I tried another Sim from TMobile, it can dial out.

However under "more settings", it still say "Locked". And when I try to "permanent unlock", it said "You phone isn't eligible to be unlocked. Reason code: 116".

Question here:

Since I don't have the order# (likely from Metrobyt), nor can contact the friend for such info,
How can I unlock the phone to be used on any GSM network?

Thanks.

Try eBay.
Otherwise, buy a plan. Then wait 180 days.

I am trying to order and at the last step where you create a pin number I get this error:

Chrome:
Oops, something went wrong.
Don't worry, we'll have it fixed soon. Refresh the page or try again

Firefox:
Sorry, we are currently experiencing technical issues. Please try again.

This is bullshit. Now im out 3 bucks.

Tried Ebay (like https://www.ebay.com/itm/404838046578), but seller said can only unlock ATT locked model "SM-A146U". Which confused me b/c this MetroByt (T-Mobile) model is also "SM-A146U".

And about buy a plan, do I have to buy a "MetroByt" plan that's at least $40 / month, but no phone included? How about the $10 Sim card only: https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/c...y-t-mobile

Can I buy a cheaper plan from T-Mobile or elsewhere? But sure it's for a network unlock purpose but not use the plan.

I don't know why Metro gave you a new number. Did you port in a Google Voice number or another type of number? Did Metro check and reserve the number during the ordering process? The screenshots below shows my process of getting my port-in GV number checked, reserved, and activated. The same number 785-260-xxxx was shown throughout the process. There's no need for me to call CS to port-in after activation.
Duh, my bad. Actually it was my Gvoice number, I didn't even recognized my it cuz I never used that number before. lol. Basically I was just confused to see Metro said to "Call Customer Care to initiate transferring your phone number to Metro by T-Mobile" after I activated.
Oh well, I guess we're all good. No need to call CS. Thank you!
