Now they've done it...
New wording for Metro unlock policy:

https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/t...ock-policy

"Unlock eligibility requirements
We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:

The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
Three hundred sixty-five (365) days must have passed since the device's activation date."

Should obviously only apply to purchases made after they changed the rules.
But might have to fight for that...
scroll down to Port your Google Voice number out to another carrier

The original MetroByt Sim is also in my hand. But after I inserted it and tried to dial, it said "Sim card not activated".

I don't know how to activate it. The thread suggested it can be activated online by the order#.

But I don't know the order#, not can I contact the friend asking for it.

You did not tell us when the phone was purchased last year. From what I saw in another Metro posting, it says "b. phone will auto activate ~ 21 days from shipping . so you cannot buy now and expect to use in 2+ months from now for the first 1 month that is included." If that's true, your SIM+Phone should already been activated if the phone + SIM was purchased like what others posted here. If your purchase is not the same as what is posted in these topics, then I don't know if anyone will be able to help you.

Metro's site is rubbish. Now I get an error: "Sorry, you're ineligible to add a line, please call CS"
Tried different browsers etc - no dice. In the past the port had failed, now it seems I am ineligible to add a line.

I don't know if Metro is removing access to order for those who ordered more than 1 phone?
Anyway, not worth all the hassle.

False!
You don't need the SIM to unlock the phone...
After 180 days of activation, it will be eligible to get unlocked , it doesn't matter you have SIM or not

It's not me who purchased it. But my friend gifted it to me last August. So passed 180 days for sure.

Well, seems like it still needs "ACTIVATING" the accompanied Sim before unlocking the phone. But "Activating" the Sim needs the order#, which I don't have.

Power off the phone. Insert the original sim that came with the phone. Boot up the phone and let it cook with the original sim for 10 minutes. Go into settings and find the unlock the phone feature/option. Click it and let the device go through the unlock device procedure.

Wait a while (4-6 hrs) for the failed order(s) to be purged from Metro system, then you'll again see the option to add a line. Been there, done that on Wednesday. I thought they had blacklisted me, but I got the Add-a-Line option again on Thursday and Friday. Finally succeeded in adding a line on Friday evening.

It's possible that the phone was purchased in a store without a plan (when the buyer wants to upgrade their Metro phone), so its SIM was not automatically activated. To activate your phone, go to this site: https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/r...s/activate , scroll down until you see "Did you purchase your Metro phone or SIM card from another retailer?" and use that option to activate your phone without an order number.

You can sleep on it and try again tomorrow. It takes longer for a failed order to be purged than the 4 hrs it takes for a locked up number to be freed.
