Now they've done it...
New wording for Metro unlock policy:

https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/t...ock-policy

"Unlock eligibility requirements
We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:

The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
Three hundred sixty-five (365) days must have passed since the device's activation date."

Should obviously only apply to purchases made after they changed the rules.
But might have to fight for that...
scroll down to Port your Google Voice number out to another carrier

Bought a Cricket number on eBay and still no dice porting in. I think Metro is blocking me since I've bought three other phones from them the last two years. Going to try again later with a Privacy.com card number and different address.

You don't have to wait until it's delivered for activation. As soon as you're notified of shipment, you can use your order number, last name and zip code to check the order status. If the activate button is not greyed, click it. Then you can use the Crimsonhill804 trick.

It never failed me!

To recapture the glorious Crimsonhill804 trick, here's the steps.

1) Make sure all existing orders are activated.
2) On the first device (iPhone 12 in my case), download Google Chrome (I didn't try Safari).
3) Turn off Wi-Fi and use the Metro cellular instead.
4) Login to your account on Chrome.
5) Do you see if all your lines are active? If so, you should see the add a line option. Click on "add a line" and proceed to complete your order as before. Otherwise, stop! It won't work if you navigate directly to the "Phones & devices" section. Something is wrong with your account and I have no idea what it is!

Good luck!

That trick didn't work for me. I have two accounts: Account #1 has iPhone12 and iPhone11 #1. Account #2 has iPhone11 #2. All lines are active. I've tried the trick using iPhone12 and iPhone11 #2. I used Firefox with Data On, WiFi OFF. Both accounts let me Add A Line, check the GV number, get the GV number reserved to Metro, but after submitting kept getting the "Call to complete the order". I've tried it with the cc used for the active lines, and other cc, but still no luck. I gave up.

That's weird - I even used the same credit card! Maybe Chrome? Or maybe they just like me because I'm a T-Mobile postpaid customer with multiple lines? Smilie The only strange thing for me is that each time I was presented with 3 questions for identification, but I didn't get those questions for the first (and maybe second too) order.

From May '23 to now, I ordered 7 Metro phones; got the ID verification questions only in the first 2 orders. Haven't got them after that, even with these failed orders.

I've tried 3 different agents.
Agent 1: Porting will take 10-15 business days. Please wait more.
Agent 2: Porting is all confirmed. Everything is good. But GV numbers are landline so just wait few more days.
Agent 3: Google has to release the number. I should call next week to see whether Google needs to be contacted. He said error is at their end.

My first month is expiring in 4 days. I'm pretty sure the numbers won't be transferred before then.

I think I've wasted enough time on this. I'm not going to try more. I just hope the phones get unlocked eventually and metro does NOT charge back as the number wasn't transferred.
Don't give up. I called today and was able to get it fixed. If an agent says any of these BS, just ask them to speak to a different agent. Also, if I were you, I'd ask for a refund on the plan cost since you haven't been able to use the service you paid for. If they deny, just open a report with BBB or FTC.

Do I have to worry if I cancel before the porting is complete ? I do not use the gv Number and not really care.

Tried adding 3rd line with iPhone 12 and got the error message to call in to complete order. Use exactly the same info as the 2nd line.

How long does it take for the order to auto cancel and the ported number to be released? I no longer see an add line option under the main account.

You were correct. After activating a third phone could order a fourth using the trick. Don't really need another phone. I get extra phone numbers for Google voice verification by getting Verizon free trials on unlocked esim capable phones.
