Now they've done it...
New wording for Metro unlock policy:

https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/t...ock-policy

"Unlock eligibility requirements
We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:

The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
Three hundred sixty-five (365) days must have passed since the device's activation date."

Should obviously only apply to purchases made after they changed the rules.
But might have to fight for that...
scroll down to Port your Google Voice number out to another carrier

I ported from GV. Says to call CS to complete port-in. I honestly don't care because I'm not going to use it anyway. Not sure why I'd even need to call in.

Question though - I'm trying to add an iPhone 12 but they're only offering me the $40 plan. Did something change? I read people were getting offered the $30 plan. Still better than $65.

I called this number, the agent knew what she was doing. Took about 15 minutes on the phone with her. Google immediately sends an email after that saying the number has been ported away.
I just called the same number. The agent I got acknowledged that the port wasn't fully completed. He asked which carrier I ported in from, I replied Google Voice, then he tried to call Google to release the number then said they're closed. I told him other customers had the Metro agent manually completed the port for them. He insisted that Google is the party that has to release the number. I thanked him and ended the call. I'll try again on Monday.

How much is your current plan? If it's not the $65 plan, you're not going to be offered the $30 plan (as the 2nd line of a $65 plan).

It was on the $40 plan but I changed it to the $65 plan and it's still not offering it. But I also am not going to pay the difference obviously right now. It says I'm on the $65 plan but still no dice. Oh well.

I am finding most phones cost something and not free for a new number even with the $60 dollar pm plan. A m I missing something or is this dead? TIA
Also, I tried to port a Tracfone number, it recognized it as a Verizon number, asked for all the details but at the end gave me some error and said go to a store --- which I am not interested.

Two things to consider. First, the FE hasn't been around for a long time, and second, the A55 will likely be here shortly.
It looks like the A55 probably isn't coming to the US for now. It's a shame. Source Androidauthority, Phonearena and others.

I've tried 3 different agents.
Agent 1: Porting will take 10-15 business days. Please wait more.
Agent 2: Porting is all confirmed. Everything is good. But GV numbers are landline so just wait few more days.
Agent 3: Google has to release the number. I should call next week to see whether Google needs to be contacted. He said error is at their end.

My first month is expiring in 4 days. I'm pretty sure the numbers won't be transferred before then.

I think I've wasted enough time on this. I'm not going to try more. I just hope the phones get unlocked eventually and metro does NOT charge back as the number wasn't transferred.

I'm not worried about that. I have the Metro email for each line that was ported in saying that the phone was activated with the ported in number, and the phone shows that number. If I get charged the full price, I'll dispute the charge with the credit card company and file complaints with the FCC.

After the first month, can I still Port out my Google voice number back to Google to save it, and the iphone 12 will still unlock 180 days later?
you could but it cost $20 to port in back to Google (or any port in to gvoice).

Are you worried about unlocking then? Do you think Metro can deny the unlock (after 180 days) because the numbers weren't fully ported over?

I'm not worried. If Metro doesn't unlock the phones, I'll file complaints with the FCC. Even if my complaints don't get the phones unlocked, I can still sell them as locked for more than what I paid Metro.

In my opinion, my numbers were ported in and the phone numbers on the phones reflected that. If it was not fully ported in (i.e. not disconnected from GV), it's Metro's fault for not completing the port-in process.

180-day unlocking policy.
You don't need to worry! Once the device first registers (aka. activation) on the T-Mobile network, the clock starts. The device will be eligible to be unlocked after 180 days. So far, Metro honors its policy. the unlocking system does not care phone number, it only cares of IMEI number...

same thing happened to me yesterday with 2 Indian girls, kept saying the issue with Google not metro and they hung up on purpose. but the third time went smoothly, took the guy 15min to manually port both lines iphone11 & 12. got email from google voice an hour later. if you get the right person knowing the issue then it won't take long. good luck

Thanks for the tip! I've been weighing whether it's worth it to save that number.

I ported from Google Voice. Activated two days ago. Outgoing calls and texts both work. Incoming texts work. But incoming calls still go to Google Voice.

It's not an important number for me, so I'll just wait and see if it resolves itself.
