whats the cheapest we've seen this? I have the original and love it. 10yrs+ now. My brother wants one.
I got the Barista Pro about a year and a half ago on a crazy deal when Bed Bath Beyond was about to go out of business. I think it was in the $450 ballpark but that was kinda unicorn-ish. If you can find it under $600 that would be a nice deal. I'd call this deal here warm.

People complain about the grinders on these but honestly they aren't the worst. Get a WDT and a single dose conversion with bellows (because clumping and retention are fairly problematic here), but the grind quality is acceptable for this price range IMO.

I just want a sell on the dual boiler
Why do you need the dual? I have touch express impress. Takes like 30secs to brew and then instantly starts on the milk.

Better get a Gaggia Classic Evo Pro + $200 grinder...much better investment in the long run
Isn't the Gaggia Classic Evo Pro the model with the Teflon coated boiler that flakes off?

I'm used to drinking Nescafe instant coffee. Would Keurig be an upgrade for me?
Yes, but why don't you treat yourself better and get grown-up coffee? Get an espresso machine

Got an Express from Best Buy on eBay back in 2018 for $384. Back of the envelop math says I've pulled something like 2,500 shots from it with zero issues (cleaning/maintaining as suggested by Breville). I read people bashing the grinder a lot, but while I have to dial it in between bags and adjust if the bag lasts longer than normal, the results are solid/consistent. If I pull a bad shot, it's because I messed something up. I've been to coffee shops that have better grinders than this and consistently pull over- or under-extracted shots.

I like to replace devices like this on a semi-regular basis to both reduce the chances of inconvenience due to eventual problems and to give friends a good deal. I picked up a new one from Best Buy yesterday (it's also on sale for $560 there, plus 2% cash back from another site). The pressure indicator is definitely using a different scale than my old one, but after pulling two mediocre shots, I think I'll be back on track with the next one.

One cool thing that's included in the new one: the Dosing Funnel. [breville.com] If you have a 54mm Breville portafilter, I think it's worth the $15 to essentially eliminate spillage when grinding.

My dual brother just crapped out after 7 years. Got a hold of breville support and I'm sending it in (Hoping they just send refurb or new🤞🏽).

Reason being is the BDB absolutely makes a better espresso. You can control your environment better, industry 58 mm standard and if you want to get it down to the sweet science, you can make your lattes more expeditiously.

My wife was a barista for many years and I told her Brevill would was willing to give me a deal on the Express impress... She told me she was willing to use a carafe until the BDB get fixed or replaced.

what's the main difference between the barista and barista pro?
Heating Element:
  • Barista Express uses the Thermocoil heating system that takes about 30 seconds to get up to temp. Also requires the system to dump cold water on the heating element to get back down from steaming temp to espresso temp. Results in longer time to make an espresso, or switch between espresso and steam wand.
  • Barista Pro has the new ThermoJet heating system which gets up to espresso temp in 3 seconds, and has a much faster transisiton time between espresso and steam wand.
Steam Wand:
  • Barista Express: 1-hole steam wand
  • Barista Pro: 4-hole steam wand - better steam pressure, more even milk heating, faster steaming process.
Grind Steps:
  • Barista Express has 16 grind steps
  • Barista Pro has 30 grind steps - easier to dial in the grind size
Chassis:
  • Barista Express has the older chassis
  • Barista Pro has the newer "better looking" chassis and is available in more colors
TL;DR:
Barista Pro is better:
  • New ThermoJet heating system
    • More efficient
    • Gets up to temp faster
    • Transistions between espresso and steam faster
  • Better steam wand - better experience if you make a lot of milk drinks
  • More grind steps - easier to dial in grind size
  • Newer chassis, more colors

Anyone have this and have had the grinder go bad or not grinding as well when you first got it? Thanks!

I have exactly the same machine and love it. Coffee tastes absolutely fantastic regardless what kinds of coffee you put in. Just Costco San Francisco coffee doesn't like the way too oily make machine and beans container messy.

Ya I forgot the 58mm. But 30secs time saved for twice the price…I think the dual boil actually takes longer to heat up so maybe no timed saved. Touch express impress takes 3secs. Makes great espresso and if you want more 58mm just get a triple shot basket.

In case you are still deciding, Breville website just matched the 20% promotion, together with a free $199 toolkit.

https://www.breville.com/us/en/pr...78BSS1BUS1

It is not exactly $199 worthy, but those things are expensive, nice looking, and actually useful.

I use those $1 Yoplait brand Oui yogurt glass container. It is 53mm diameter and fits perfectly under the grinder. It literally snaps in place and will prevent a mess. You can then put the portafilter on top of the glass and flip it. No mess at all and easy workflow.

You can also try less oily bean options, sight glass, ritual roaster are pretty good if you wanna try something medium roast.
