Unfortunately Welch's has confirmed that they do use both pork and beef gelatin in their Fruit Snacks, and as they use both consistently in pouches, due to the presence of pork which is haram, Fruit Snacks are considered impermissible by Islamic scholars and they do not have halal certification.
Booo but I'm still eating them

Do you have reference for that?

right. makes no sense same with all food and drinks as well.
Stupid me had high hopes for 'crystal pepsi', I assumed once people had the option to avoid the artificial coloring they'd choose that option enough that products that omitted the unneeded dyes would stick around. Companies sell what people buy, so based on people not buying crystal pepsi, I can't blame companies for continuing to sell stuff with artificial coloring. Am I the only one who wants to see a case of sodas in glass bottles, with each one colored orange, brown, blue, green, red, but randomly different flavors than what you'd expect based on the colors? Orange, but it's cola, blue, but it's lemon lime, etc.? Or alternatively, all of them are clear but all different flavors? Mystery sodas? No? Not that I want the dyes, just that I think it would illustrate for people that the dyes don't add to the enjoyment of the drinks.

Because they would have little to no color, or at worst, a brownish tint to them. That would be fine with me (preferred actually) personally, but most people, and certainly most kids (the target consumer here) would not like that.

Healthier products use beet root powder for (red) natural color, and while that is becoming more common, you're not going to usually see that in these super mass produced retail items due to cost.

It's one reason I will pay the premium to buy desserts from the bakery at Whole Foods…none of their sweets use artificial colors or flavors, and you can really taste the difference.
If these had fruit juice in them I would agree but they have fruit purees in them. You ever puree a strawberry? It's about as deep and rich a red color as you can get. You're practically creating a dye paste.

I think fun sodas like that would be great but they wouldn't be mass production sellers. You can probably find stuff like that at a novelty soda shop like Rocket Fizz. I too was a connoisseur of Crystal Pepsi when I was younger but my favorite soda was Sprite so I was probably just drawn to clear sodas in general. That said, the caramel color in Pepsi isn't artificial, it's just a form of caramel. Sugar cooked with something like citric acid to make it stable.

Here's a link to their FAQ. Unfortunately my SO doesn't mess with pork so motts would be the alternative. https://welchsfruitsnacks.com/faq...%20gelatin.

Ok. Now let that sit out and oxidize and go through multiple heat processes, then sit on a shelf and mix it in with a veritable chemical soup of other ingredients and see what color it is.

Hint: it's brown Big Grin

Has anyone found a way to open those little bags without scissors? I would have thought they would tear open, but as far as I can tell you have to cut open each individual bag ✂️
I find them very easy to open. If you try to pull it apart like a bag of chips it is difficult. It is easy if you grab that little seam that goes up the middle and pull it to the side.

For those who shop at Costco, the 90 pack at Costco is typically 15.99. This 40 pack is 44% as much in quantity. Prorated, that makes this deal slightly cheaper than Costco. You save about 80 cents here.

the 90 pack is cheaper at Sam's Club (at least here) at 13.94, just FYI in case someone is a member at both clubs.
