I got the same error and figured out how to get around it. Don't use the links above. Login to Metro with your phone line and PIN. Then, go to Phones & devices >> Tablets & devices. I was then able to select the Samsung tablet and added a line and paid $20. Hope this helps you out.

This exact situation happened to me lol. My phone line expired as the tablet was in transition to me and the day I got it, I couldn't activate the tablet. what an idiotic way to do things. This company really sucks. Guess it's a WiFi only tablet now
In this case (for future reference), I would suggest activating when it's still in shipping, I think as long as you have the order number, you can activate it.

What do you mean can't use Wi-Fi only? I'm able to setup the tablet using Wi-Fi without SIM and use it on Wi-Fi only.
It didn't allow me to set up without sim. Without sim it wouldn't let me bypass the start tp set up. So I had to put sim in for it to work.

somebody posted that you can use this tip to bypass that, also it seems after setting up with sim, next time if you reset it and without sim, it can bypass sim activation.

Quote from crazycool:
You can bypass that by tapping four corners from top left, top right, bottom right, bottom left, do it for two more time in the same order, so total 12 tap, then press volume down, after that you will able to connect to wifi and set up without SIM.

Just got my Samsung A7. It's so underpowered it barely plays youtube videos. Screen is nice, so the youtube thumbnails look great. I guess it's a $20 web browser.

I just got a new samsung phone and installed the Samsung TV app.. pretty slick for free and might work on sammy tablet too. Or in chrome with your samsung account or you can use chromecast with it. ... Thinking of pausing Youtube TV on the football off season.
This does work on this tablet, very nice TV app for free.

I didn't expect much for $20, but this thing is slower than my 2012 Nexus 7 and nearly useless. My screen has severe backlight bleeding and when I press the +/- volume rocker it takes a good 2 seconds for the adjustment to be made. Maybe I'll just use it at a digital photo album/frame.

Can't believe Samsung sold this cr@p for $180 until last year. The 8" tablet space lacks good options.

The A9 has only been released in non-US markets and that too without the Snapdragon processors.

Thanks, that definitely speeds up the tablet noticeably faster.
Also, turn on developer mode and disable animation.

You'll notice a significant difference between app opening and closing. It feels a lot faster and more responsive.

I got Android 14 (December 2023 security patch) and UI 6.0 (installed Metro Sim and activated it). Overall, for $20, it is a very good deal (considering you do all the above steps; otherwise, you will notice a slow start and response).

Turn OFF RAM plus under Decice Care-> Memory
ENABLE "Reduce transparency and blue" under Accessibility--> Vision enhancement

This sped up my tablet a lot.

EDIT: A7 lite
reminder for people just getting their tablet set up. This helped speed up my tablet

It's painfully slow but I was able to watch videos on it just fine; in my case youtube and HBO Max. As well as streaming PSPlay with a wired controller. It's a bad tablet but not THAT bad that it's only a browser or picture frame etc…

That said I got an Alldocube iPlay50 Mini from Amazon just today ($69 lightning deal) and performance is night and day better than this Samsung. plan to return the Samsung and keep the iPlay mini
