If you've already got the motherboard, I would get this now and upgrade to the 16 core (or 24 core) Zen 6 when it launches in 2025 or 2026. My guess is that a 9900x will be mostly a side grade to this (slightly faster), but it will probably cost more money (since Intel likely won't have anything to compete at launch) . Regardless, you are smart to get the motherboard on sale now, as the next Gen motherboards are pretty much identical chipsets... Nothing really new.
Yup I read on online forums that x870e motherboards were going to be just x670e boards with built in usb4.

Rather just save money since the motherboard I bought (msi x670e gaming amd wifi) does not have any compromises in terms of functionality for the price I paid since it can also use usb 4 in the future by using an expansion card.

Msi x670e gaming plus amd WiFi that I saw on this website a few days ago on Amazon and Newegg.

Don't know why it's not getting popular because it literally is the best bang for buck motherboard in terms of i/o and 4 m.2 slots with no compromises eating into pcie or sata bandwidth.

This motherboard can also be upgraded to run usb 4 when the expansion card is released.
Ordered thanks.my deal alerts don't work neither does the search function

I've heard that the scheduling issues with this CPU have pretty much been fixed and at somewhat close to the price of the ryzen 7 7800x3d (about $55 difference from all-time low here: https://slickdeals.net/f/17315650), I feel like this may be more worth the price for productivity needed tasks as well? The ryzen 9 7950x3d is way over budget and I need an upgrade from my old ryzen 5 3600 CPU. Doing a lot of work with multiple windows open, often do photoshop, lightroom, davinci resolve, but I'll occasionally game here and there and stream (to kick/twitch) with friends and want top performance for that. What do y'all think? Not really interested in going Intel.
Why wouldn't you just upgrade to Zen3 on AM4? It's cheap and you'll get a massive upgrade. If you need productivity, the 5900x and 5950x are productivity monsters. If you need gaming, the 5600x3d, 5700x3d, and 5800x3d are gaming monsters.

There's also middle of the road choices like the 5700x/5800x which would still be a huge upgrade for you but are routinely on sale for less than $200.

Sort of just wanted to go full out and futureproof for at least the next 5 years preferably.

Only one of the 6 core nodes has 3d cache, no go.

7800x3d gives you all 8 cores with 3D cache and for less.

Adding up ipc gains for each gen, I can see wanting to wait for 9000 given that 3600 is still plenty viable for now. We're talking what, 20-30% gain to 5000, 25% to 7000, maybe at least 25% to 9000

you would need to buy a new motherboard, ram, etc if you want this cpu

honestly if you just want to have the multicore performance just go with a 5950x --- you can get that cheaper than a 7900x3d right now but that would be the only cost

well, may want to wait if you are looking for 5 years

basically, it sounds like the next amd chip will be closer to a big little arch, comprising of zen chips + zenc chips (zenc are basically just low power dense chiplets that are smaller but can't clock as high)

with the next years release to be essentially a zen big little refinement like zen 1 to zen 2 was

I got the msi x670e board that was $220 on Amazon. Should I buy cpu now or wait (I still need GPU HD, ram and water blocks...)

5950x is only like $14 cheaper than this CPU on Amazon rn and true I would save on mobo and ram , but ehh I'd definitely rather just want to take the full upgrade for future proofing with $250 cost more. I think I'll take y'alls advice and wait for the next gen to release later this year. Hopefully we see a further price drop in current gen or a worthwhile leap in next gen.

I'm going to wait and see what the 9000 series bring to the table as I'm sure this will drop in price again once the 9 series releases.

Can you elaborate what this means?

A little better gaming performance (frame rate) on the 7800X3D -- this is because the cores individually have more V-cache. A bit better productivity performance (video editing, file compression, etc) with this (7900X3D) due to more cores and a higher boost speed. However, the 7950X3D is even better at productivity applications.

I actually think this chip at the shown price is a really good deal unless you're purely looking for a good gaming CPU. The 7800X3D is going to offer just slightly better framerates for even less money. On productivity performance, you would need to really be into video editing, 3D rendering, or compressing/decompressing archived files to ever even care...
