I understand it to be another communication method where you won't need to go from phone to router to device. With matter your phone can communicate directly with the device bypassing your Wi-Fi. It's much faster. But obviously if you're not in range it will still be over the Internet to your router to your device.
The "matter" products are pretty interesting: its a new standard / way of communicating between devices with matter, with very little use of wifi (when it can work) sending small signals just between them as bridges and should be compatible with google, Apple and other products.
Or at least can tapo app control the old tp-link kasa plugs?

It's really not that much of an inconvenience to go into the room 30 mins before I want it warmer to turn on, but I'm the kind of lazy that welcomes technology in these instances!
I use with one and it's been fine

With power monitoring plug, I use an automation to turn on a lamp and trigger Alexa to tell me the wash is done.
This way I hear and see to know I need to move the laundry so it doesn't sit and get forgotten.
I use one to turn on/off my external hard drive so it's not always running.
When I'm in virtual meeting, I trigger one to turn on the lighting so my face is lit up.
I use others to turn on cameras when I leave the home.
I use another to recycle the router when there are wifi issues.
I have more that do other things but that's an idea of some stuff.
Timers work great as well to turn things on/off when not home via away/home automations via Alexa, Hubitat, or Home Assistant.
Once you start with one or two, you'll think of ways to use them.

I use them with a motion sensor to trigger voice and light routines (with a lamp plugged in) which is helpful at night.

Recycle router? Is there an option in the app to do off and then back on after a min? If the router hung, might lost access to everything.
