I mean I get what you are saying but looking at your Abu Ambassador 6500 for one it says it's a bait caster?!? Meant for saltwater and has a
Line capacity of (yards/lb. test): 255/17.Also cost $64 at Academy and is a totally different beast than the little spinning reel here.Is that yours?
Can you use this little spinner for saltwater well sure but should you is another story 😄 The ocean is full of all kinds of crazy fish when you fish in a lake or river fish you generally know what you are targeting and what your gonna get.
That's the one! I don't disagree with your reply. It can be done, but why would you? I definitely agree that if you're going to the ocean, plan accordingly with proper gear lol. In my instance I was targeting bat rays, and my main setup there is a '12 surf rod with 50lbs braid on a Penn Squall 30 reel which I know is a trolling reel, but I'll still cast pretty far. But the Ambassador reel was setup for a kid and that's why it was there. Go figure that's the rig that hooked on. 😅

I had about a 8ft sand or bull shark on a reel like yours with only 20lb mono and it pulled the boat around for about 45 minutes 😄 Couldn't get it up :/ and it finally sawed thru the leader.
Definitely needed a bigger reel ha.Use to get some fairly big rays to but nothing to crazy.Cool fish

I always run Shimano myself but picked up a MaxZ SP10C the other day for $13.00 on clearance at Wally. I always like to keep a few cheap ones around for friends.

So many comments about landing heavy fish on light line when the real factor is how good the drag works on the reel.
