It's just another sku and case for collectors to buy. If you watch youtube, i guess the avant garde, the cool thing is to advertise you don't care about tech. I've really only seen one yt series, art house show, interviews big actors, that's filmed in a store or something and all it has is dvd cases. So, I guess, the br case is no longer cool.
And maybe there are a few people who really like the movie and want every format in case civilization ends. I doubt that's the reason they released it though. I've heard that a lot of people only buy dvds still, tried finding someone who'd explain why they do that. I just don't see how thats a possibility, especially with pirating and streaming take up most the market. They're not going to be future proofing at $20+ extra either.

Anyone remember in the early days when DVD cases were really thick and sturdy, and didn't have holes in them in the shape of the recycle symbol? For example, even a bit later in DVD's lifecycle, the quality of the Superbit DVD cases was superb. Those were way better quality than today's Blu-ray or 4K cases, which even the better ones are still pretty cheap and thin.
On another note, I still appreciate DVDs being bundled with Blu-ray releases for multiple reasons. For one, virtually everyone has a DVD player, but a lot of people do not have Blu-ray players, much less a 4K player. Also, DVD just works. Always. As much as I like the formats, I still can't say that about Blu-ray and 4K, especially 4K.
On another note, unless it's being sold at a bargain bin price, I refuse to buy any 4K release that doesn't come bundled with a standard Blu-ray. It costs the studios next to nothing to include it, and they set the precedent of doing so from day one. And 4K players can be glitchy. In my opinion, having the Blu-ray as a backup, or for rooms other than the living room which likely don't have 4K players, is thus essential. But I'm not buying two separate releases to get both discs. Sorry. Warner and Paramount have really been irritating me by stopping bundling standard BDs with their 4K releases. And as such I have not bought anything from either studio since they started this. Arrow Video, as well.

Maybe it adds value to you, not debating that. But for most people, I think once they have a 4K BluRay setup, they aren't going to require a DVD or Standard BR. For your 'bedroom tv' use-case, wouldn't the digital code let you stream the 4k print, at a better bit rate and much better resolution anyway?
Don't get me wrong, I'd still prefer getting multiple formats in the box if paying the same price, but that won't be a deal breaker for me. I have the 4K + BR + Digital for Interstellar and yet for a moment I contemplated if I should buy this version - but I realized I would only add to landfill, waste my money on redundancy and end up with a little bit of regret if I make this purchase.
