FWIW, Althogh we have not seen it yet, Amerzon is planning to ditch its android base and are building their own OS. That makes a difference in apps going forward (apps will need to be rewritten). It makes a differance if you side load apps. USB ADB has been reported to being missing in the latest firmware updates. I do not know the value of a device like this anymore when its future is clouded. I own 3 cubes and love them, but I would guess they would be the first to get updates because they have the memory to do it.

Somehow I missed that news and it sounds terrible! Since this news surfaced in November things seem to be quiet, I guess we'll see....

They have been seeking folks to create a new development team that is not based on Android. I gues they have already rolled it out to some devices. If you also concider Roku is bricking devices if you do not agree to new TOS, there must be some money involved, Antenna man was saying they even brick the roku part of roku tvs! Something is going on for sure.
I would, at this point, think a Fire Stick max, is all I would spend. Near same spec at less than 1/2 price of a cube on sale! I really think the new os will be deployed by 3rd quarter.
Sticks with 1gb ram and 8gb storage will be EOL at this point because I just dont see how they can putt enough code on a update to rewrite the whole OS. We do however notice that they have code that can delete apps to free up space so I could be underestimating just how much they want to do this. I would not be suprised if they just do a %50 off trade in deal to those who have old HW. They have a huge base, but they are swatting enough flies to make us rethink Amerzons intentions.
BTW. You can still get tivo 4k and ONN boxes for $25 or less, so there is a non Amerzon option. If enogh folks retire their sticks they might get the hint.
