This is a good, flexible, intermediate level truck. Fast enough to keep older kids and adults entertained, but can be turned down for young or inexperienced users. The transmitter has a switch to limit power to 50% / 75% / 100%. Newbies can start on a 2S battery at 50% and eventually work up to 100% on a 3S battery. Unlike some of the cheaper Amazon trucks, parts to repair it will be readily available. This would be a good way to get started in RC and eventually upgrade to a 6S vehicle when you're ready.
I have an Arrma Kraton 4S truck that I run on both 3S and 4S, and cannot imagine ever having any desire to upgrade to 6S. 4S vehicles are already preposterously, stupidly fast on all surfaces.

I'm just saying this for perspective. A 3S truck isn't like a toy for beginners or something you'd find at Walmart. This is a serious hobby-grade vehicle. The majority of people will not feel any need to even upgrade from 3S in my opinion. You have to be really into the hobby to go beyond that.
Do a solid and buy through Tower Hobbies or Horizon Hobbies directly - same company and the actual owner of the Arrma brand. It'll end up being a bit cheaper if you have their free membership or their club membership, due to points earned for a next purchase.

I'd get a dual charger and probably at least 6000 or higher batteries. You don't want to be changing batteries all the time. There are many charger and battery options, idk what is the best

The Arrma Granite Brushless 4x4 could be the pinnacle of beginner hobbyist RC cars.

I bought the Spectrum 6S charger kit. It's flexible because I can run 1 battery in a 3S while the other charges, or I can bump up to a 6S (2x3S) car later on.

Not seeing the coupon any more.

Edit: you have to select Horizon. Amazon doesn't default to that option

This is about as low as the Arrma 3S models go, good deal. As snowdrifter said this will run from around 20 mph on a 2s battery at 50% to nearly 50 mph on 3s. There's plenty of room to learn and grow, parts are available and inexpensive and they're pretty easy to work on.

Keep in mind you will need to factor in the cost of batteries and a charger if you're new. The Spektrum smart line are nearly foolproof but pricey.

If this thing can hit 50mph how fast are the 6S the other guy is talking about.

Has anyone took one of these on the highway and filmed it for YouTube yet?

Any recommend RC trucks for a 5 year old? Would this be overkill/dangerous?

For those not in the RC hobby, please note that modern day LiPo powered RC trucks/cars are no joke and you cannot treat them as toys. Please exercise caution when running them and for beginners I'd advise starting with the lowest recommended number of LiPo cells first and learn how to control one before going up in cell count. And I've owned all sorts of RC brands, they all have pros and cons, once you try an Arrma RC though you will know why they are the best in business at the moment. Hope this helps some of you that are thinking about getting into this fun hobby.

These trucks are awesome. Easily fixable and upgradable. 2S is enough power, 3S is insane at full speed. These granites are backflip machines with the right ramp. Tons of fun and perfect entry into the hobby!

If you ask 5 people this you will get 7 different answers. I'd recommend starting out with a basic and cheaper combo first, after a while you will know what features/size/setup that will suit you best, then hone in on your research for a quality set. I've gone thru a couple of charging systems before I settle on one. You may be surprised that it may not be the performance that you care the most, it could be simple stuff like whether the power plug is in the back or on the side (which impacts your bench setup).

Where should I buy this from? I don't need points for future purchases. Tower, horizon, or amazon. Are there free memberships that get you a discount on your first purchase ? What batteries and from where?

I like this but I think something in the $100 range is better for a beginner who may not want to keep with the hobby.

I've been wanting something like this so started digging into this deal. Noticed someones comments to a beginner on the dangers of the batteries these things use, sharing some of their personal experience with fires. Then found this: https://hobbyking.com/en_us/blog/...01-a-guide . The heck with that. TLDR: they are "safe" so long as you don't poke them, drop them, put them in your pocket, get them wet, leave them in the rc car(!!?!), charge while warm (after using), use while warm (after charging), charge unattended, or my favorite, forget to store in its fireproof bag (!!?!). Probably more I'm forgetting. Yeah, no thanks. You've REALLY got to be into this stuff to put up with such hazards.

Are there any "good" RC vehicles out there that use a battery that's not trying to light itself on fire if you look at it wrong?
