Note that this is a model produced for the Chinese market and not legally sold in the US. If you buy in the US you will have no warranty or support.

Better to pay a little more and buy a US model.

Very interesting, I thought the Gray in the title referred to the color. I did read the review I think you mentioned, I'll paste it bellow for others to see.

What's interesting is that others said it has US writing on the back and not Chinese, maybe it was a fluke for that guy ( pun intended Smilie ) from an Amazon mixed inventory issue... I'm going to contact fluke once I receive mine to confirm... I already ordered one.

"This does have the Fluke name so you would be correct in thinking that this would be a good choice and you would be confident purchasing this. DO NOT think that for one second. Within the Warranty Period (1 Year) the LCD screen died on this meter. I contacted Fluke and Technical Support told me I had a defective meter and then transferred me to the Service Department to discuss my "options". Service immediately told me this is not Fluke, it is Fluke China and that any warranty claim would need to go through them. No phone number only an email address. [email protected]
I do not appreciate having to contact China for a warranty claim that one would not be wrong in thinking would be honored by a company with a reputation and history like the one Fluke enjoys. I would think twice before you buy this. For the money this meter costs, there are other Made in China Multi Meters that cost less and are probably made in the same factory. I am so disappointed and I will most likely never purchase Fluke products again.
Now for an update. Even though I bought this directly from Amazon, not the Amazon Marketplace, I was told by Fluke that this model should never have been sold in the United States. Fluke China never honored the Warranty, and Amazon has not given me a full refund. Save yourself from the aggravation I have been put through and buy a different Multi Meter with a Warranty."

They do make some of them in the US, but if it's a "C" product, it's made in China. So a 289 would be a US made model (with global materials), where a 289C would be a Chinese manufactured version of the same thing.

trms?
no. 100-117 line of products are basic technician/electrician products. similar to old 70 line of products.

Why so expensive? No auto range?
it does not have ranges to select. this means it is auto-ranging.

I don't care where this thing's made as long as it has the fluke name even if it's fake I don't care because it has the fluke name I'm willing to pay three times as much for it

I've owned this exact meter for over a year with no issues. I have the 117 too but I like this because of the compact size and the magnetic strap that comes in very handy as it can be attached to any metal surface like panels and AC units doors. It also forms into a triangle base in case you have no metal surface to hang the meter. It has its limitations compared to the bigger meters, but for my use case it does all I need in a compact package.

For the average diy homeowner Fluke and $85 is not necessary.
I don't know why people are giving you a thumbs down. I have a bunch of cheap multimeters including the $5 HF one and a nicer Craftsman. When measuring voltage in an outlet, or a battery, or any random electrical device I have measured, all my cheap and better multimeters read about the same. The only other thing I use multimeters for besides voltage is continuity with the beep option which comes in handy. So why does your average person need a Fluke? I mean, I understand that if you have the money and you like quality tools, a Fluke is nice to have, but it surely isn't a necessity.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I came too as well a few years back. Ended up buying a new Fluke 115 on special for $130 and it is a champ!

I just bought this because I had a cheapo one that I use...maybe once or twice a year. I used it so infrequently that I actually take the time to take out the batteries just in case the battery leaks/corrodes.

A little after two years, using it at most 5 times, screen flickers and the partial reading I can see is definitely off.

That was a well-reviewer $30 unit.

I would happily pay $90 if I can use this for the next 10 years and not have to worry about whether or not it will work the next time I need it.

Totally understand. I guess I have just been lucky with mine. I have four, from the cheap HF one which I think I got for free to the best one which is a digital Craftsman. The craftsman is the oldest at around 20 years and still works great. I just took it apart to clean the contacts in the selector switch and clean the display. The middle two are cheaper, I'm guessing Chinese units, from Amazon. They also work well and are several years old. But on average, I probably use a multimeter once a month, so they definitely don't get abused. I just got a little more interested in soldering, so I bought thermocouple test leads for the old Craftsman and that also works fantastic. Surprised I didn't buy those earlier now knowing how convenient and accurate it is to measure temperature of all sorts of things with a multimeter.

All other suppliers have it for $90, which makes this $4 off. I would have believed the $150 price if it were trms.

Can I test micro chips to be faulty or not on this multimeter? Sorry, learning, just purchased it.
