For some reason shipping takes twice as long with New Egg. Worth .49 cents for faster shipping? I am going with eBay.

It's the same thing as here, up to you but I'd rather not give Newegg any business, even if just their marketplace.

Maybe I'm missing it but warranty is *not* specified in the newegg listing page unlike the ebay deal from yesterday from the same vendor/product. It just says "90 days free return"

Just submited for an RMA - same drive size/model, but from Serverpartdeals as opposed to NE/GoHardDrive. The 10Tb I ordered from NE arrived fully functional but I'm running a surface scan on it to make sure right now. 12Tb had click of death and wouldn't power up. I get the feeling all of these drives, regardless of seller, are a bit of a crapshoot in terms of quality, which makes me wonder what consistitues a "pass" with their factory recertification program.

Since it is from GoHardDrive, will it include the 5 year warranty if I order from Newegg?

wondered the same thing. I haven't found any evidence to support this on newegg's website. They do have other hdds listings where 5yrs warranty is clearly stated

Just FYI who wants to buy from Newegg. I bought two of a similar HGST drives last month. One of them was DOA and one was good. Although goharddrive/newegg replaced the DOA one, it took almost two weeks as you would need to send the defective part, wait a couple of days, then they send you the replacement.

I've received the replacement and so far it has been good but just keep that in mind when buying.

I'm not sure if it is the same when you buy from Ebay.

Next time Ill probably return it for refund and if the deal is still up, Ill just buy another one or wait for the next better deal.

Supposedly there is no real "recertification" going on. They just wipe and ship out from what I heard.

From what I read in all these deals from them posted here they do honor the 5 year if you contact them and ask. I sent them a message to confirm and will let you know what they say.

Totally agree, newegg customer service is crap, it's not the same business it once was pre 2015.

These are not really refurbished hard drives. The seller is not replacing the motor bearings, actuator, or refilling the helium. The only "refurbishment" they did is wiping the data. These are USED hard drives that's been used for 5+ years in data centers. They are probably more than half way through their typical life.so a failure like this is expected.

Definitely not something that should be expected. The drive was literally dead on arrival. Wiping it implies that it worked at least for that action. And selling something for eighty odd dollars means the buyer should at the very least expect that a drive is verified functional at the time it's packed.

Drives can break during shipping.
