Unless you're plan is to use this as a weapon for the zombie apocalypse you shouldn't be waiving this thing around, and a lighter load on the battery end is less weight to support.

The 1st gen had a variable trigger, but no Hi-LO power switch. The trigger didn't work well (on mine) seemed either full on or too slow.
The gen 2 had a H-Lo switch and the battery loaded from the rear.
The gen 3 has the Hi-Lo switch in a different location and loads the battery from the top. Mine works very well, with the steel blade edger attachment it will dig a deep trench when edging, it has a lot of power.

You would be amazed how weight balance, not simply how much does one end weigh, can make carrying something easier.
I didn't go into the angle of the shaft to the wheel and how it affects usage. Or, how the height adjustment wheel doesn't lower enough, so you switch blades a little sooner than normal. How the geometry of design impacts usage will blow your mind. Also, I have the 40V version of this edger. Looks the same, but can't confirm dimensions. I'm coming from years of using a gas powered Shindaiwa commercial grade edger.

There are YouTube videos and websites showing how to modify. I use both systems with the same batteries.
I believe it was the same situation with the 40v systems. It's been a long time since I looked into it but I think Ryobi was, at least originally, also using the same stuff.
* Edited to fix auto corrected product name.

Of course people carry tools so balance has an impact, but this is slick deals. Most people aren't going out buying a $200+ 4ah battery to improve tool balance.

Buyers are looking for value, experience being a part of it. (Who wants to spend $200 & be dissatisfied?) Using battery electric is different from gas. Not bad, but different. Pushing 8lbs on the end of a stick is different from rolling a stick with 5lbs on one end and 3lbs on the other. People who edge know.

This thing is 5' long with nearly all 10lbs on the front end and the pivot point is basically right behind all of that weight. The 3lbs of the standard battery is more than enough to counterbalance, you don't need the 2 extra pounds of the 4ah battery for "balance" because that is all weight right on the handle.
You're suggesting adding more weight to the end you're holding when all you're doing is asking for back pain. If this were a string trimmer -with the shoulder strap support in the middle- you would have a decent point that I agree with, but it's not. Their string trimmers are also bottom heavy and benefit from more weight on the battery end, but balance is a little more important when you're supporting all the weight.
I'm not comparing this to gas, I'm talking about this tool specifically, which I have, and have multiple other tools in the greenworks 80v ecosystem: this is a 10lb trimmer and their standard 2ah battery is 3lbs, which is already decently heavy. Recommending adding another 2lbs for the sake of "balance" is making a heavy tool needlessly heavier for questionable benefit, but please continue to gatekeep by being "someone who edges" like that isnt something most homeowners do.
