A heads up: If you abuse buying discounted phones and activating then immediately canceling AT&T service too often, you will eventually be banned by AT&T from activating service anymore.

Believe it or not, that type of gaming is tracked and no one will be able to fix that for you.

Ex-AT&T employee.

PS: If you don't care, that's fine. But If you do, then you should be aware of this and pick your deals carefully.

The Ultra/256gb unlocked is $421, no need to go thru all the cancellation hassle , better deal imo.

they are dropping 50 every two weeks. I would wait, these phones are not selling like hotcakes. I considered s24 ultra during googlefi launch promo and rolled back because the price is too steep to what it has to offer. I expect the s23 to drop in price till they clear the inventory.
Also s24 have similar att offers through best buy for +$100 to $150

Would H2O wireless SIM which use AT&T towers work on this S23 phone without going through unlock process?
It should

I got through to a tech support agent and they cited that the account was under 60 days old. They did agree that the device was unlock eligible. Is it just a matter of finding the right agent?

Edit: They even supposedly reached out to a supervisor for an override, and came back with the same thing.
It's a hit or miss but if they have put a note on your account then I'm not sure if they are going to give it away. Their policy states 60 days wait though so you should be able to get the code after 60 days even if you don't have service. I don't have a confirmed report on that though.

In that case, is there any risk putting the H2O wireless SIM to this S23 phone without unlocking it. Did any successfully do that? If this works, all I need to do is cancel the ATT line, right?

Did anyone successfully used their ATT MVNO sim card in this phone without unlocking it first.

Do you know what might cause them to put a note on the account? Are you talking like a "do not unlock their phone" or just a description of the interaction?
I only interacted with them once.

After originally getting my unlock requests denied, I waited 24 hours and then tried the unlock again using a different web browser and different name/phone number. My unlock was approved 5 minutes later!

If you get denied initially, leave the SIM in your secondary unlocked device for a day and then try the unlock again using a clean browser session. YMMV but it worked for me.

Just picked up the S23+ for $399.99 plus tax. Got a new phone #. BB didn't charge me for activation nor the sim card.

Now, I gotta go re-read everything on how to unlock then cancel.

I love the step by step directions for a) unlocking the phone and b) taking off AT&T bloatware. Great job OP!

However, when I'm in my AT&T account. There's a little button "Unlock Eligible". How wonder if that will be quicker than switching phones and what not. Anyone try this?

Nevermind, I clicked on it and it didn't work.

Just tried unlocking. I got a new phone #, no porting. Got the dreaded "The service on your mobile number hasn't been active for at least 60 days".

Will try again in 24 hrs.

Did you put the SIM in another home and verified it shows up in the account ?

Yeah, something along those lines but I'm not sure how they work. MrFire in this thread is an ex ATT employee and they might have a better idea than me if you want to PM them.

Yeah you will just need to cancel the line. But I've not done this personally so I cant confirm for sure it works.

Yup. Made sure I saw the "unlocked" phone in my profile. Then, proceeded. No go. Will try tomorrow.

So that the AT&T unlock system doesn't associate the request with my existing account.
