I've stayed away from sprayers due to reading that the cleanup isn't really worth it. Still curious about these.

If you're looking for easier clean up, you can also do the knock off PPS 1.0 systems with a Habor Freight gun.

I don't know who said that cleanup isn't worth it but it doesn't take long to do. The benefit is you can get a much better finish and use quality paints & clears which can also save you money. I mean, if you are just doing lawn furniture or something then cans are fine but if you want a quality finish on something then the gun is the way to go.

In general, when reading about sprayers, it commonly comes up that for the avg homeowner, sprayers just aren't worth it due to the cleanup time and mess. I don't know.

Am a homeowner. Don't paint often but would love to get a nice finish when I do. I'm pretty good by hand but even nicest foam rollers aren't getting a spray-like finish.

If you are talking about spraying your interior walls or similar then I fully understand. And this gun is NOT the setup for that either. This is for spraying urethane, lacquer or similar on cars, bikes, furniture, guitars etc etc. The ones I think you are talking about are the airless sprayers for house paint which is much different.

So I own one and that isn't correct about them.

The average homeowner doesn't clean up after themselves so if you let paint dry in the gun thinking you will just use it tomorrow and don't, you will have a bad time.

Generally, clean up when you finish using it for the day and they will last you a very long time.

Also, DO NOT lend this to someone who needs to use one.... see above.

I know various factors come into play but on avg how quick do you think you clean up after using a sprayer?

I plan on doing some woodworking when I retire. A sprayer is on my radar. Clearly need to educate myself a bit more.

You should clean the gun immediately after using. On average it only takes about 5-10 minutes and isn't difficult. Empty the cup, add some thinner in the cup, swirl, spray, back flush, empty, disassemble, clean all parts and passages with cleaning brushes and gun wash or thinner, flush parts with clean wash and a devilbiss or similar squirt bottle, let dry a little and reassemble. I usually spray a little reducer or thinner through after reassembling to do a final flush and dry.

That being said, these guns have a disposable Nozzle setup. I believe they are good for a few uses then you just swap it out. Great for spraying metallic finishes and difficult to clean finishes.

Man this is not what I've read throughout most of my Googling paint sprayers.

Good to hear it here though I guess.

Google can be your friend and it can be your enemy at the same time lol. There is also a big difference between the house paint sprayers and these ones(which are meant for fine finishes). The house paint ones are definitely more a pain in the ass and take more work.

What do people suggest as a very light hobbyist level, maybe 1 time a year user compressor?

(I already bought a $200 spider or what ever its called from HFreight.)

You're going to need a very big compressor (13 SCFM @ 20 PSI) to use this gun.

Yeah that is a air hog gun but it depends on what you plan on painting. If you plan on doing a full car then you will need a bare bones minimum of 30 gallon and 13-14 cfm. If you are just doing small things like a guitar, table, bumper or something then you can technically get away with running a 30 gallon even if it isn't perfect match on the cfm. I have run a 20 gallon low cfm compressor with my sata which is about the same cfm as the black widow. It works for a quick blast on headlights or something but anything bigger and it isn't efficient so you will get fluctuations in spray pattern/atomization which translates into more sanding.
