Pay attention with the ports being on the side. My case is older and didn't have an opening to he able to use this properly. Had to return. Just an FYI for anyone looking.
The 80+ ratings don't have anything to do with reliability. Run cooler? Sure by a few watts. Efficiency? Around 2% better than gold rated. And almost unnoticeably quieter, a few watts less waste heat isnt going to make much of a difference when we are talking about 100s of watts of usable power. And the price is actually not bad, the cheaper decent brand name platinum ones start at around $250 for 80+plat. Is the $60 dollar difference worth the minor improvements for 80+ platinum? I personally would say no.

Platinum or bust. For this kind of money, pass on Gold 1200w for $190. Platinum are more reliable, run cooler, more efficiently and quieter.

What about titanium?

They don't make a Platinum SHIFT PSU or a PSU with the connectors on the side like the SHIFT series. This feature is an absolute gamechanger, I wouldn't own a PSU without it. The RMx series is in the highest tier of PSUs you can buy on the tier lists: https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/

There are very few ATX 3.0 Platinum PSUs options of equivalent build quality, and they are more expensive.

In an era where many people have NAS and either shut down when not using, or can quickly sleep and unsleep their PC, Gold vs. Platinum has never mattered less.

On another note, Corsair just released the SHIFT series in White, cheapest price I see for it right now is $209 for the 1200w version on Amazon right now. I just bought the last one ($239 everywhere else).

See these two links to verify fitment:

https://www.corsair.com/us/en/exp...hift-psus/

Using this configurator, you tell it what case you have and then notice if it recommends SHIFT PSUs or not. It will only recommend SHIFT PSUs if your case has clearance for it: https://www.corsair.com/us/en/pc-...inder/case

For people about to buy a case, the SHIFT feature itself is so great that it should dictate what case you do or don't purchase, not the other way around.

Yeah I'm good now. It was the first time seeing this form factor (after I received it) so I didn't even know back side connectors were a thing. I ended up going with a Seasonic GX-1000 instead. My previous PSU lasted me 10 years so I don't keep up with these things all that often.

When all PSU brands hit the 1500w limit, it's gonna be wild. Prices are gonna get all out of whack and anything lower than 1500w (in the U.S. anyways, UK and EU is higher) will probably be obsolete, barring a push for GPUs to be more efficient than ever before. GPU power usage is getting way out of hand. Can't wait to see what will happen.

Considering the technology advancements and trends for the past decades, I doubt we will see 1500w becoming the standard anytime soon.

I have the 1000w version and it has been solid. Only gripe is the connectors are type 5 which are only available through Corsair or cable mod if you want to replace. The ones that come in the box are a bit stiff and the ugly flat ones. If this doesn't matter to you, and your case is 230mm with an open side, then you will be happy.

Got this from Amazon a couple days ago. It came in a beat up box with just the psu and a torn up plastic bag of cables...it didn't even have the egg carton-like support packaging.

If you aren't married to the idea of the plugs on the side, "be quiet! BN517 Straight Power 12-1200w 80 Plus Platinum, ATX 3.0" is $10 cheaper.

1200wā€¦but why? Not even a 4090 with latest processor will hit anywhere near that.
