I've purchased two pairs of these, and paid more than this each time. I genuinely don't think you'll find a better deal at this price point. My ONLY complaint (more like an observation) is that they're a bit soft on the treble, but you can counter that my turning it up a little bit. That aside, these punch way above their price point.

Wondering if anyone had the same issue as I have with the 1700bts. The wires the unit comes with are total TRASH! I use the speakers for my PC, and for some reason, it would get crazy static issues when Im using a headset or when nothing is playing and I turn the sound to max. I believe the wires were the issue because I bought a pair of "shielded" to give a try before submitting a warranty. I initially thought those "shielded" woudln't do much but I was pleasantly surprised when this was fixed it. Actually, I was annoyed that I had to buy a pair of 20 dollar wires since the ones the speakers came with were trash.

I'm very satisfied with the 1280DBs paired with a subwoofer, and the small form factor made for easy and unobtrusive wall mounting. I'd not be satisfied with either one without a sub, but the 1700 is clearly better without a sub.

The 1280s with a properly tuned sub are a great little set and offer slightly better connectivity than the 1700s, but the 1700s have better Bluetooth abilities. For non-critical TV setup in a spare room, the optical input and sub out on the DBs models is very appreciated. You can't go wrong with either .
I too prefer the form factor of the R1280 series but I found the sound quality disappointing. I don't think the addition of a subwoofer would have helped the lacking highs, which is what bothered me about the R1280. Even turning the treble all the way up wasn't sufficient.

This should go well with my orange Audio Technica LP60 refurbished I got during a recent deal.

I like the fact these have APTX. Opt In would be nice, but in my case they are primarily being used as a wireless system in my work area.
A fellow orange enthusiast? Where was the orange LP60 deal? I paid almost $200 for mine on eBay in 2021.

They had Refurbs for $90 from the AT site itself. Looks like the deal is dead now

I like the way the orange stands out compared to my other stuff which is most darker and somber tones. It's going to be used in a space that needs a touch of color to it

Got you. That just goes to show how subjective sound quality is, and even though my ears would be treble shrill at max treble, I totally believe that your ears hear what you hear. My guess is that the small tweeters of the 1280 with more dispersion would probably sound better nearer while the slightly larger tweeter with more beaming 1700 gets the sound to a further listening position better. The woofers look to be identical, but a bigger box with more air volume is going to make bass significantly better.

The 1280s are very well balanced to the sub to my ears, but even with my speakers probably 8 or 10 feet apart, they never give me that totally disappeared stereo sound I've gotten on bigger speakers with better bass response. Still love them for the $300 total I paid for sub, speakers, and wall mounts. It mainly just TV and some occasional music since I'd prefer the living room for most music, so that's where I recommend them.

You want the Edifier R1700BTs then.

Unfortunately not on sale right now.
I grabbed a pair late last year for $150 and have been VERY happy with them so far.

Been using a pair of R1280DBs I got on sale for $112 with a gaming PC for those times when I want to play something but don't feel like wearing headphones. No complaints really, they're not as nice as the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1's I used back in high school but I wouldn't want that much power and bass in this situation anyway.

You're right, this stuff is quite subjective. I'll just note that I was comparing both at close range. I was surprised at how bad I found the highs on the R1280, even compared to some much cheaper speakers. I did notice that Edifier advertises the better tweeters in the R1700 but I don't recall the details.

How is this compared to the MR4s as a PC speaker? I'm going to be using it for mostly multimedia consumption.

MR4s have a better tweeter and waveguide, but they have a rear-firing port that you'll need to have at least 6" or so off the wall.

Ahh OK, thanks for that info. Treble is a critical setting for a speaker since I will be watching lots of YouTube, Netflix, and movies.
