Seems like a good price, but have to imagine a replacement/refresh is coming soon, especially with the HDMI & firmware debacle.

Amazon shows this model is ~3.5 years old.

I have a Yamaha that I mostly like.
It is getting wonky in its old age though with random failures to connect speakers.
And software / firmware updates are not something that Yamaha does well / regularly.
I am also waiting for the next wave of releases to upgrade mine.

maybe someone more informed than me can educate - I see Denon S series regularly around $300, how is the Yamaha one good or better ?

I have an A4A and the firmware is flawless with HDMI 2.1 with an LG 4K TV , Apple TV box 2023 and PS5 hooked to it. The only people complaining I think don't have high speed certified HDMI 2.1 cables. No issues passing audio, all version of HDR, VRR etc

This is HDMI-CEC issue. It's the protocol that turns on/off your other connected devices when one of them is turned on/off. Please check settings of both Apple TV and PS5 to customize this behavior. Or, it can be disabled entirely on the receiver.
