There are various models available at a great price. According to the hump site, this is the lowest price recorded. I have been looking for one, but wasn't willing to spend the $329.

HomeDepot has the same price: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Schla.../322082407

How is this a slick deal?? these have been $220 in the past.. come on OP.
10% off via Home Depot if you use a chase card and have the offer through them. Also buying through Home Depot means you can probably get the lock rekeyed to your existing ones by hd for free (at least Lowe's does that and HD did in the last for me... maybe that depends on the store though). Search sd for Home Depot for chase 10% offer.

I think I got mine for 230 though so prices can go lower. Also don't use lithium rechargeable in these only regular. Lithiums go from full to suddenly empty so you'll never get a warning to replace before it dies.

Best smart lock ever especially for iPhone users. Batteries in this lasted a solid 6 months.

Always go with something like this, a lock brand that make smart locks, not chinese Software companies that also makes locks. Those generic chinese brands (aqara etc) will give you a lot of headache. I bought a cheap one got locked outside and had to spend $250 with a locksmith. More expensive is sometimes peace of mind. I will aleays go with Schangle and reputable lock brands from now on

Sorry for not being clear. Yeah what op posted is just the deadbolt with no handleset. Sure there's a difference in models that allows Apple products to open the door, but that feature isn't worth it (to me) and I think it's expensive. It really isn't hard to key a pin. Unless you're trying to set up some entry access for a BNB, not sure why I'd want to connect access to my home to WiFi/digital. When I initially setup my encode I recall putting it on Google home Assistant then wondered why on earth id want to enable voice to control a door lock. (Anyone could just talk to Google through an open window). Just my opinion that this is expensive.. I bought my first shlage encode under 100$, second around 120$ (ebay).
Good recommendations? I don't need for anything other than my own home so a reliable coded entry and maybe WiFi enabled to allow it to lock remotely on occasion.

My recommendation is just browse the schlage website for the style and functionality you're like looking for and periodically check eBay or local for a good deal. I'd look for a model that has a key (not all models do) in case the battery dies. I personally trust schlage, the lock is robust and comes with a security latch plate and longer screws to sink the strike to framing. I never had any issues but it being so popular means lots of diy videos youtube

Like I said in subsequent posts I may or I may not. I'm happily using Alexa and it wasn't clearly stated that the "plus" feature doesn't work with it. I got mine at a steep discount which is only $20 more than the non-plus version, so I'm fine with using it like the non-plus version. The point of my post was to warn others who may not be ok with spending $80 more for the "plus" feature only to realize they need to spend $80 more for a hub to use the feature. There are plenty of people like myself who have Apple mobile devices but are not using HomeKit for automation, and it's not like Home Key is a tech that everybody with an iPhone's familiar with. There are only a handful of devices that support Home Key including this lock, and I've never heard of it much less that's what allows certain mobile devices to unlock it with a touch.

How about appreciate your wife for all she does and buy her the Apple Watch she deserves. Problem solved

She does have a Apple Watch, and can't unlock it with her Home Key if I've added this device to my HomeKit since we don't have a Apple hub and can't be added to the same HomeKit account.

This would allow her to unlock the door using the Schlage watch app. But I just tried it right now and it asked me to login using my iPhone. That would've been a problem if I left the phone inside. Not as convenient as putting the watch up to the lock (with homekey) to unlock.

Anyone have any advice on installing one of these on an outdoor gate? Is this overkill for that application?

The inside portion isn't rated for outdoors, you'd have to build an enclosure to protect that side
