The price of these outlets is dumb. There is no way they are this expensive to make.

Probably not but they ask similar prices for power bricks and there's a power adapter in this.

Leviton may be pricey, but at least you know what you're getting. The TOPLER listing you linked is sketchy at best. They claim to be ETL listed, but I can't find them in the ETL database, which is a pretty common issue with the random no-name brands on Amazon. I also can't find anything on-line about them in general. Heck, they can't even spell their own brand name consistently in their listing.

The chances that TOPLER (or TOPELER?) actually includes the built-in over voltage/current/temp protection they claim to is slim. Same with the chances they will exist on Amazon in a few years. These are not things you have to worry about with a brand like Leviton.

1000% agree as a electrician we only install name brand stuff like Leviton. Leviton devices go through rigorous testing and have to be a certain standard. Which is why when you go to the hospital you're going to see their devices used almost exclusively. Also when you're messing with the #1 source of house fires you dont really wanna cheap out. I have a few of these usb devices (20amp) in my house and they're built well (not cheap feeling) they're so big they won't fit in some old boxes. I would recommend geting one with a usbc port though vrs this one posted above.

Not just USB-C but would specifically look for USB-C with * PD * (power delivery) to be future proof as it can charge most laptops and higher power devices. Usually $30 on deal.

Nice, thanks for sharing. Leviton overprice their Decora stuff, e.g. faceplates.

Seconded. (Thirded?) My dad is an electrician, best friend is a forensic fire investigator, and I used to be a test engineer at a 3-letter safety certification company that will remain nameless. Anybody reading this thread, I can't stress to you enough to stick to name brand, safety-certified outlets, ESPECIALLY ones like these. You're embedding a transformer inside your wall that sits on the mains 24/7, and may be there for decades. I've seen enough questionable products like these come through from Chinese fly-by-night companies that we had to reject, and I have to keep hearing horror stories from my investigator friend about stuff like this.

Really, do yourselves a favor, if you want to save $10 on something like this, wait for a slick deal on name brand stuff and don't be tempted by TOPGREENER and such on Amazon. For attended devices like egg beaters or whatever, if it starts smoking, you are right there to unplug it and avert a disaster. For unattended devices like a lamp, relocatable power tap, or a literal transformer being installed in a workbox inside your wall, I really urge you to play it safe and go with like Leviton, Pass & Seymour, Legrand, Commercial Electric, etc.

Not to be such a downer about it, I really like these, just tryna spread the word here since you folks may be interested to know.

What about the various XWHQOE@# and CHIHGOY stupid name surge protectors on Amazon that are "ETL" listed? Is that bs too or it can be actually legit?

FYI I don't trust anything electrical unless it's UL or ETL listed in terms of outlets, bulbs or power brick chargers

I'm trying not to say anything disparaging here, but yeah. Your suspicions are very valid, some of the seedy stuff that goes on in that business is false marking (surprise!). The fly-by-nights make a giant shipment of questionable stuff, sell it off and then dissolve so that there's nobody to come after when fires start happening. Usually it's the retailer left holding the bag, In the insurance biz, when something goes sideways, they go after the entity with the deepest pockets. I saw a lot of stuff come in from Walmart, they got so sick of being sued that they'd smartly send in stuff to be put through testing even though it was already marked just to make sure. Ollie's got stuck a few years ago with like a whole bunch of extension cords with counterfeit safety certification markings that were labeled 12AWG but were more like 18-20AWG and nobody knew till fires started happening. That was really cute, they used thinner wire and added more jacket to make it feel heavier.

Not to bore the heck out of everybody here, but yeah. That's the kind of thing that goes on, so when you see these weirdly-spelled company names on Amazon & Ali Express, imagine how much that scares me Big Grin Again, I'm being a huge snowflake about it, I just have PTSD from watching consumer products overheat & burn and arc in a lab during testing. Also hearing from my investigator friend about massive damage & loss to low-income housing that wasn't up to fire code and he finds the source to be some off-brand, unlisted space heater or 65 year old power outlet that the landlord didn't replace.

Maybe it would help if I said something constructive instead of all this gloom & doom Big Grin

When I'm shopping for unattended devices, I really try to stick to UL listed things & appliances from companies with a reputation. These are things that are plugged in 24/7.

I'm a lot less worried about attended devices, since if they fail, I'm there using it and I can yank out the plug before a fire gets going. But I still try to get UL listed things as much as possible.

If I use one of these, then I can't connect any appliance to it at the same time. Why don't I spend the same amount of money on a splitter or an extension or? Why would I choose this?

This replaces your current receptacle, you can certainly connect an appliance to it. The point is to add USB functionality to your outlet(s) somewhere that is convenient, though I'd argue to get one with USB-C at least, and probably USB-PD if you're gonna bother changing a receptacle in the first place.
You COULD do a "splitter" or "extension", but these are much less noticeable since they are fully integrated. These would be great for a kitchen island, for example, where an extension (or "splitter") would be incredibly awkward in comparison.
