I'm not using it as branding moniker (hence why I didn't capitalize the term to match the name); I'm saying that it's a streaming device licensed by Playstation for streaming from Playstation. It has Playstation logo right there on it and has "remote play" all over the marketing photos.

If its aim is to emulate the console experience, then it seems perfectly apt to emulate the controller as well. It does for me at least.

I'm going to shirk off the angsty-ness in your comment, I imagine you're passionate about the topic as well.

It "literally makes sense" and others have agreed above^ even. Figuratively it makes sense too.

The versions at Target are the Gen 1 versions. You can get the Gen 2 versions at Amazon or Best Buy for the same price.
Yep. I thought I was seeing things but you're right. Target is only Gen 1.

Also, remember, xbox version does not work with PS Remote Play, but vice versa does, stupid licensing thing.
That is incorrect. The only difference between the black and white models is cosmetic.

I just did this mod with the Hall Effect Gamesir G8 Galileo.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waIZBFvSmrk

Very pleased thus far. I got an iplay mini pro 50 NFE for about $80 (super sale) and couldn't be happier with the pair. It can play any USB C thing, and the PS Play app runs perfectly and without onscreen overlay controls (which was wrongly said online to be only PS-branded Backbone compatible).

Threw this on the back of the controller and now it works as a stand for watching netlix too.

Word of caution: the Target one was a Gen 1 backbone. Going to return it for the Gen 2 version from Best Buy instead.

I was going to go with the G8 or an X2s. Only thing that held me back was some forum talk about the Dpad not being great on the gamesir. One of my main draws for these was retro gaming.

Alternative for me to all the Emu handhelds that have been the rage - miyo*-amber* stuff. So I dont have to maintain and charge another device.

Having used this BackBone Gen2 for a bit now - the Dpad is fantastic.

I agree - Gamesir has some great choices. What has your experience been with the Dpad?

Also - talk from those that have both saying the BackBone feels better built? I agree - it feels great.

I have no issue with the Dpad, but I'm not a great SF2 fighter or anything. Feels fine to me. Of course, you can always map the analog to Dpad for most things as needed anyway, which is how I like to play on Dpad only systems with the newer controllers.

Downsides for the G8:
On my android tablet, once in awhile the controller will show up as some kind of variant, just needs and 2 second unplug and replug to fix.
It's EASY to mod, but without a 3d printed back extender it gets a tiny bit janky as it is out of track and you have to put it back together. Can't extend the Backbone this far AT ALL so not really a downside.
The Gamesir software is totally confusing to me and seems to create android popups asking if I really really want to allow it control over and over. If I didn't want the back triggers I wouldn't use it at all.
Before the G8 came, I was playing PS Play on the tablet with a PS5 controller and the controls are the same, but HZD and most games are made for PS5.
Last downside is that there aren't any good cases for the G8 with a tablet, but I found that a PS Portal case sort of works. I'm going to use a heat gun to melt the internal plastic to widen it inside and I'll have an all-in-one.
I LOVE it with Moonlight, but found that Sunshine and Moonlight with ZeroTier were a PITA to set up. But playing my Alienware PC anywhere is also a huge win.

Costco has a version of the PS Backbone for $50 and it comes with a $25 PSN gift card.

In December they had it for $30, making the net cost about $5

That model is the BB-02-W-S

Not sure why someone downvoted me. That is completely true. You can use the PlayStation streaming apps with the black "Xbox" version, and you can use the Xbox apps with the white "Playstation" one. The button caps match the system, but that won't affect using those apps.

No, the previous poster was correct. I have non PlayStation brand gen 2 controller and was surprised that it was not compatible with the native PS5 streaming app.

You will need to use an unofficial app for the non PlayStation branded backbone.

Is the next iPhone released in the US confirmed to be USB C? I'm hesitant to buy the lightning one if my next phone won't have lightning.
