Shout out to Malwarebytes for still honoring Lifetime keys. (these keys are no longer for sale, if you see one it's either TOS violation or scam)
Helpful tip... Its cheaper to buy these each year then to renew subscriptions.
Yeah I had 5 from newegg sales years ago, only 3 still work though. 2 claim they are fraudulent keys or something which is bs since I bought them at newegg but so much time has passed I just ate the loss lol.

Yeah I used to max out on them when they were on sale for $15 with a limit of 5 at Newegg. None of the laptops or PCs that I worked on for family and friends left here without it installed. I still have 3 in use for my own PCs and one for my FIL. And no sorry I don't have any more :-)

In 2015, I purchased a lifetime code for my PC. However, when I contacted support later, they informed me that the code couldn't be used on a different device. Since then, I've switched to a Mac, and unfortunately, I can no longer use the code. Have there been any updates or changes recently regarding such a situation?

Edit: my purchase history in Newegg shows three past purchases. Is there a way for me to recover the code? I don't have the physical box or card.

Guess we're in the minority. Haven't used virus protection software, other than what comes with Windows, in over 15 years. Never an issue.

How is it compared to kaspersky total, norton and similar? What about to windows defender?

I thought malwarebytes whether free or paid you still have to use it with another program?

Yes I still have a 3 license on my malwarebytes account, but soon as you activate 1 key the clock starts. I use about 3-4 keys a year.
Are you saying you can use the "Link existing subscription" and enter the keys and they won't be used until you activate a device on that subscription? I just bought 2 but I have an active subscription so I would obviously like to wait until that is expired and then activate one of the keys I just purchased.

It is good to have on your main personal rig. but I don't like yearly subscriptions. make me a good multiyear offer and I'll buy.

Serious question, to the seasoned IT people, software engineers, etc (people that actually know shit, not hobbiest casuals like me) - Are programs like these even necessary anymore? Are there legitimate security/privacy threats that necessitate software like this?

Basically the same. I have a lifetime key and don't currently need anything more than Defender.

Imo, yes as anyone who thinks that some default Windows product will prevent you from getting a virus and you are "safe" because you don't visit dubious sites or do something stupid is just naive imo. Anyone with kids esp. should note this. Can't tell you how many times I have had to clean up machines used by my nieces because they did not run anything other than Windows Defender (despite repeatedly telling them to install something else). Windows AV is a lot better than it used to be, but I would not depend on it.

Nothing is foolproof, but I run Norton and Malwarebytes together (never had a problem) and I know a number of times Malwarebytes caught something Norton didn't. I have also come across where it removed a virus when Windows and Norton could not. Anecdotal I know, but it is what it is. Fairly cheap insurance imo.

My 2 cents.
