Saw this in CostCo yesterday and thought it was a very decent deal. I forgot that CostCo does give an extra year of warranty and basically a lifetime replacement, as long as you don't abuse it.

I have owned a few Windows laptops and Chromebooks, and eventually a key will fall off the keyboard or stop working altogether, or the backlight will start to go out, the headphone jack will start to make a static noise,or the thing will just shut off completely and never turn on again(had this happen to an Acer Chromebook of mine and the All State warranty guy was completely in shock according to the letter that they gave me on what happened since they could not get it to book back up).
I've never had that happen with the 3-4 Apple laptops I've owned. Lastly, people are willing to pay that extra, extra if you resale them. I usually break it down by lifespan of product - if an Apple laptop costs me $1800 and I get ten years out of it, I've spent $180/yr. If I buy a $999 Windows laptop, and I get five years out of it, I've spent $200/yr.
Just saying.
I have to laugh the cult of Jobs to let people pay more for less....
However, the thermal and performance of the Apple Silicon is far superior due to the architecture.
The overall experience and build quality is just better than you can get from a non Apple computer.
Now if that's worth it, is up to the consumer. There's a reason top companies spend money on Apple MBPs for their people. If they weren't worth it, money wouldn't go there.

So the initial entry is high but with resale values, ongoing purchases aren't nearly as bad.
